Ghana arrests Chinese suspects in illegal mining crackdown

More than 120 Chinese nationals have been arrested in Ghana as part of a renewed clampdown against illegal mining.

Growing numbers of Chinese have been going into Ghana, Africa's second-biggest gold producer, since the price of gold soured at the start of the global financial crisis.

The suspects are being held at a detention facility in the capital Accra, pending bail.

Chinese embassy officials told the BBC they are investigating the situation.
