Maya in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula get their own soap opera

Indigenous Maya in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula are to get their own TV soap opera.

The 21 episode show, Baktun, premieres in August and features Maya actors speaking in their mother tongue.

The soap's producers hope it will focus attention on the hundreds of thousand of Maya who live in southeast Mexico - and help preserve their indigenous language.
