  1. Post update

    David Moyes

That's a night from the Premier League. Thanks for all of your company today, and don't forget you can follow the return of David Moyes and tonight's boxing on our live pages.

    Good night.

Manchester United's Ashley Young: Brilliant team performance, great feeling to win away at Arsenal. Think the photo says it all...

Manchester United players celebrate Rooney's goal
  3. Moyes set for debut

Deportivo v Real Sociedad (21:00 GMT)

Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela in his side this evening.

He begins his La Liga campaign in just over half an hour and you can follow the action in our European live text page here.

  4. Sunday action

In the early game on Sunday, Crystal Palace face Liverpool in a repeat of the game which eventually cost Liverpool the title last year.

Then Hull face Tottenham at 16:00 GMT.

Both of those games will of course be covered here.

  5. Post update

It has been great to have the Premier League back. A fine day of action, 15 goals and plenty of talking points.

But what else is coming this weekend?

  6. Text us on 81111

Tony, Lincoln: United fortunate to win. Arsenal must get their defence right. Convinced they will make top 4 at the season's end. No good getting shot of Wenger. He will sort it.

Akbar: In the transfer window that Wenger signed Ozil for 42 million he also signed Flamini for free. That in a nutshell shows how shockingly flawed Wenger's transfer and tactical philosophy is.

  7. Post update

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

Arsene Wenger says that he does not expect Wojciech Szczesny to have a bad injury but he does not know about Jack Wilshere's ankle.

  8. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Photogenic: The good news is that you won't need many points to finish in top 4 this season. One strong team & 19 average teams.

Ellis Hickey: Arsenal need a manager who will provide a second plan instead of passing and wishing for the best.

Ade Ojelabi: The WHOLE of @Arsenal should apologize to supporters (forking out money to buy the most expensive tickets) and fans at large

  9. Post update

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

Louis van Gaal says he very frustrated at having to constantly change his line-up and formation because of the injury list at Old Trafford.

  10. "I did not see the incident..."

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

A classic Arsene Wenger response to Jack Wilshere's clash with Marouane Fellaini.

"Honestly, I didn't see the incident."

Joe Harries: Hate all this Wenger out nonsense. No one can blame the manager today, the only ones to blame are the players. Poor performance.

Neo Legolas: Saying Wenger Out simply doesn't solve the problem but to think of it that's the only change left now.

Andy Bradley: Why haven't Arsenal picked up quality defensive players now we have money? Questionable decisions costing us dearly recently.

  12. Manager reaction

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

    Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "It was one-way traffic and we lost the game, we have to take it on the chin. I know we'll be criticised for it but you have to respect the energy levels we put in.

"We paid for the slightest mistake and it's very frustrating to come away with nothing.

"We had the best chances and we could have finished better. At 1-0 we should have been more cautious not to give the second goal away. There was plenty of time to come back and that's where we made the mistake.

"In our job when you don't win, you're very concerned but there are a lot of positives in this team. If we can keep this going with the quality and the energy levels we have, we can bounce back very quickly."

  13. Post update

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

"It was one-way traffic and we lost the game."

That's the opening line of Arsene Wenger's reaction. He also says he expects criticism.

  14. Post update

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

    Luke Shaw

More from Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal:

"Luke Shaw has an ankle problem. It is not the same injury as what he had in advance of the game. We have to wait and see. It is unbelievable the injuries we have had.

"It is the first away victory and the players are very excited but it is just one victory. We have to confirm that with further victories and then we can say we have the spirit and can start looking upstairs and not downstairs."

  15. Text us on 81111

Icemandb10: We were poor defensively last season, yet we lost Vermaelen and Sagna in the summer and failed to replace them. Wenger didn't build on last season he weakened the squad, he has not learned from his mistakes over the last decade.

Frustrated Gooner: For those saying that Wenger can't be too blame, we have had the same problems with defensive frailties, lack of leadership and general profligacy for the last 4 seasons. The one constant has been Wenger, who also had a £100m budget to address these flaws last summer. Accidents and flukes happen, but not season after season. Wenger must go.

Graham in London: Not worried at all. The difference between the two is that Arsenal will win games playing like that and United will lose them

  16. Manager reaction

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: "I think it is a fantastic victory at the right moment. We have a lot of injuries but despite of that we win a difficult away match. Arsenal are a good attacking team. At the end I can laugh but you can imagine if they score one of four or five chances in the first half it is a different game.

"They have had five big chances yes, but we have also had possibilities at the end of the first half. Not so big but we could also score. In the second part of the first half we were coming back. We don't have the confidence in the first half and I said we needed to build up the ball and because of that we got chances. It is no surprise for me that we scored in the second half. I was not pleased with the ball possession of our team but after that we improved and in the second half we did very well."

  17. Arsenal's flat start

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

The haul of 17 points from 12 games is Arsenal's worst ever start in the Premier League.

  18. Post update

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

In a very entertaining interview, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says the injury worries he has are unbelievable and that Luke Shaw's injury is a new one, not related to the trouble he has had before.

He also seems astounded when he is told that United are into the top four...

  19. Post update

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

Louis van Gaal is refreshingly honest isn't he? He says he can laugh now but if Arsenal had taken any of their first-half chances it would have been a very different game.

    Full reaction to come.

  20. Player reaction

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

    Wayne Rooney

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney: "We rode our luck at times, our goalkeeper was fantastic.

"We felt they were vulnerable on the break and we hit them with two good goals, which was our game plan.

"Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett have coped really well. This will give us a lot of belief and confidence, it's come at a good time for us, It's been an indifferent start for us but we hope we can go on a good run now. We want to build a bit of momentum going into the new year and see where we are then."

Arsenal, meanwhile, are in eighth place, seven points above the relegation zone but eight points behind Southampton.

    Is that good enough?

  24. Post update

    Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

Manchester United are back up into fourth place after that win, but are still a mammoth 13 points shy of leaders Chelsea. In fact, they are closer to bottom-placed QPR than Chelsea.

Jamie, Harlow: Tactically brilliant from Wenger. If we won here we'd be in danger of finishing above 4th. God forbid we should show any ambition. Losing this means we'll scrape 4th and he'll get his nice CL bonus again.

Terrible miss! Arsenal are caught out again, Angel Di Maria has the whole half to run into! He's clean through, nobody will catch him, but he fluffs his attempted chip wide. For £60m, you expect a goal there...

  36. Post update

    Arsenal 0-2 Manchester United

A lot of Arsenal fans have their heads in their hands, while Arsene Wenger sulkily looks on. He'll be wondering what has gone wrong for his side today. In charge for large periods, undone by a defensive error and a clinical counter,

"While the Manchester United fans celebrate noisily in one corner of the ground, many Arsenal fans are making their exit. There are banners being held up in front of me reading "enough is enough - Wenger out"."

  42. Post update

    Arsenal 0-2 Manchester United

One shot, two goals! That's the story of Manchester United's night. A clinically finished chance by Wayne Rooney though, and one that Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere could do with learning from.

  43. GOAL

Arsenal 0-2 Manchester United - Wayne Rooney

Game over. A classic counter-attack as Arsenal are left with only Nacho Monreal back. Angel Di Maria sends Wayne Rooney away into the clear, the United captain takes his time and clips the ball over Emiliano Martinez. The away end erupts. Louis van Gall is off his seat, the Arsenal fans are out of the ground...

    Wayne Rooney scores
  44. CLOSE!

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

I'd quite like to see that Timirlan...

Alexis Sanchez scored twice for Chile during the break, but he can't find the target on this occasion, curling a free-kick over the bar. Danny Welbeck is then stopped in his tracks by Chris Smalling. Good tackle.

Vaishach: the last thing Man Utd will be hoping this season is for de Gea to be injured than those defenders. Sensational.

Timirlan Dzaurov: Bayern could easily take down these Arsenal and ManU sides... and I mean playing them both at once.

  54. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini heads a corner tamely wide. Manchester United are set up perfectly for the breakaway now, everyone back with Angel Di Maria ready to burst clear at pace. Arsenal will have their work cut out to find any space - but they do have a corner. Robin van Persie heads away.

  55. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

Arsenal go direct, and to good effect. Danny Welbeck wins a header well, down to Santi Cazorla, and he rattles in a strike which David De Gea is again right behind.

  56. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Emirates Stadium

"Interesting to note that Manchester United are ahead without having had a shot on target - that Antonio Valencia effort was heading wide before it hit Kieran Gibbs. One player who has not helped in that department is former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, who has not had a single shot at goal tonight, and has barely had a touch of note either.

"All of that will not bother the Dutch striker, or his manager Louis van Gaal, if the score stays the same."

  57. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

There are a lot of big players out there who have contributed very little to this game. They have 25 minutes to have an impact. Few groans of frustration in the Emirates as a patient move breaks down.

  59. YELLOW CARD

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

The very essence of 'taking one for the team.' Pure filth from Santi Cazorla to chop down Ashley Young. United were in on the counter attack and Cazorla is booked.

  60. GREAT SAVE!

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has had a cracking game and he's quick enough to beat his man again and stand up a cross. Alexis Sanchez attacks it, he gets there ahead of Antonio Valencia but his header is well held by David De Gea. Plenty of power, but not enough direction in the header.

    Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
  61. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Emirates Stadium

"It is the Manchester United supporters making all the noise now, and it will be interesting to see how the Arsenal fans respond to this setback - they have understandably been deflated since that bizarre goal went in. That was United's first real attack of what had been a completely one-sided second half, yet the Gunners are behind."

  62. Text us on 81111

Simon, York: You can't give Valencia time and space to line up his trademark vicious shot cross. No one in the world does it better than Antonio in my opinion.

  63. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

Can Arsenal respond. Everyone appears a bit shell-shocked by the nature of that goal. It had not been on the cards at all, Arsenal well on top since the break. But one ball in, Kieran Gibbs had a meltdown and now United lead. Send for Olivier Giroud?

  66. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United

It looks like Wojciech Szczesny will have to come off too. A disastrous 10 seconds for Arsenal. Manchester United lead without having a shot on target.

  67. GOAL

Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United - Kieran Gibbs (OG 56 mins)

A calamitous goal! Kieran Gibbs makes two errors, first of all he collides with Wojciech Szczesny as the goalkeeper punches away a cross. He is then sitting on the floor when Antonio Valencia flashes in a cross/shot from the right, but reacts in time to snake out a left foot and divert the ball into the far corner.

An own goal, and he's injured the keeper...

  71. Ouch!

    Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

Danny Welbeck should have done better there - and now Jack Wilshere is in real trouble. He is clattered by Paddy McNair as he released the ball, right at the base of the ankle.

A heavy tackle, he really caught Wilshere. Lots of concerned faces from his team-mates.

    Arsenal's Jack Wilshere is injured
  72. GREAT SAVE!

    Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

Impressive start form Arsenal. Per Mertesacker makes a mug of Marouane Fellaini, beating him twice at a corner to reach the ball first, but his half-volley is wild and over the top.

  73. Text us on 81111

Aetesam from London: It is pretty worrying when you look at the amount of goals Wilshere has scored for us. Yeah he's been injured a lot but with his ability it just doesn't make sense, his finishing is just appalling at times and is costing us here again.

Mike in Derbyshire: Mike Dean has bottled a simple decision of a red card. He had a clear view of Wilshere putting his head into Fellaini's face, it had to be red?

Balding of Highbury: Re Roy the DUFC fan, the 'average armchair fan' has only recently been given the voice to make daft comments via social media. Rob, Southampton: Why are people having a go at united defence - we haven't conceded. Surely questions need to be asked of midfield on front of them?

Andy, Manchester: As bad as the defence have been they've been getting no help from the midfield. Second to every ball has allowed arsenal to dictate the play and left the back 3 exposed. Only came back into it when our midfield got a grip.

"It is hard to believe the first half ended goalless, especially from Arsenal's point of view, but Manchester United's latest makeshift defence not only held firm, it became a foundation for some very dangerous attacks by the visitors.

"Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini have played a big part of that, putting in a shift - and some crunching tackles - to change the balance of power in midfield when Arsenal were running riot, and this game is still in the balance."

    Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Manchester United captain Paul Ince does not think Red Devils boss Louis Van Gaal is under any pressure - even if they lose at Arsenal.

"No, he won't be under pressure. I don't think he is even looking at winning the Premier League this season - he's not looking at Chelsea or Manchester City.

"He just needs to get United back into the Champions League. That's his ambition for this season, getting into that top four and building from there."

  87. CLOSE!

"The Gunners supporters made even more noise when United's first real spell of possession ended with them forced backwards before Chris Smalling played the ball to his goalkeeper, and they are urging their side forward whenever they have the ball, which is pretty often right now."

We certainly had to have a shape about us and have discipline, but to lose those first couple of goals was obviously against what we were trying to do.

"We had a game plan which was made more difficult by the first goal which I think was offside. But the second one I was disappointed about - we pride ourselves on being organised at set-pieces and we weren't as organised as we should have been."

On the red card for Claudio Yacob: "I can see why he sent him off. I don't think Claudio was trying to do any damage to Diego Costa, he was trying to win the ball, but the rules are such that if your feet leave the ground with both feet you're not in control. "Right now people are looking at this season and you can't expect critics, or football fans, to constantly look at this bigger picture. Unfortunately we take it too far the other way, where when you win and you're a genius then the next week have a nightmare and you're an absolute loser.

    Garry Monk

Swansea manager Garry Monk: "We are a little disappointed but they are a very good side and they had their chances. We had a couple of chances at the end we should have taken. I am just very happy with the journey we are on. We are competing in every game.

"We got a good goal and the players' mentality changed a little bit as we tried to protect it. A learning process for us, the players are fully committed. We pushed an exceptional team very, very close.

"Of course City will push for the title, I don't doubt that."

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Emirates Stadium

"The statues outside Emirates Stadium are a reminder of happier times for Arsenal, but also demonstrate how it has been a long time since United's status was also so low.

"It is more than 16 years since they last faced each other with both teams outside the top four, when Tony Adams - now immortalised in bronze outside the Gunners' ground - scored Arsenal's first goal in a 3-0 win in September 1998.

"That was the season United went on to win the treble and Arsenal finished second, a point behind them. Those days must seem like a million miles away for both clubs now."

  156. Beware of the wounded Welbeck

Arsenal v Manchester United (17:30 GMT)

    BBC Radio 5 live

    Danny Welbeck

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck should have an element of revenge on his mind when he faces Manchester United for the first time, says ex-England midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

"You don't want to get carried away and lose sense of game plans but it is important to keep being sold at the forefront of your mind," says Jenas.

"He was at one of the biggest clubs in the world, had Robin van Persie who wasn't playing that well being picked ahead of him and you've got a young lad, an international who came through the ranks, and all of a sudden he's being told that he is no longer needed.

"If I was Danny Welbeck that would be at the forefront of my mind and I'd be ready to go."

  163. Wing-backs?

Arsenal v Manchester United (17:30 GMT)

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Emirates Stadium

"Manchester United's defence has been an ever-changing beast this season and there is an element of mystery over how they will line up at the back. Louis van Gaal names three centre-backs in Chris Smalling, Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair and the presence of Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia means they will probably play with wing-backs.

"But Smalling could also operate at right-back, with Valencia further ahead of him, in a 4-4-2 formation that would leave an unexperienced pairing of Blackett and McNair, aged 20 and 19, at the heart of United's defence.

"Further forward, the good news for United is that Angel Di Maria is fit, and joins Wayne Rooney and former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie in attack."

Man Utd line-up: De Gea, Smalling, McNair, Blackett, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Shaw, Di Maria, Rooney, Van Persie.

    Chelsea 2-0 West Brom

There's a chance a minute for Chelsea. John Terry has a header brilliantly saved by Ben Foster before Willian screws a cross/shot right across goal.

  247. CLOSE!

    Manchester City 1-1 Swansea

Is Jefferson Montero the fastest player in the Premier League? He's rapid and he gets in behind the Manchester City defence following Wilfried Bony's cute pass. Unfortunately for Swansea, the winger's first touch is not as sharp as his pace and Joe Hart is given time to recover and make the save. At the other end, Sergio Aguero's shot is deflected wide for a corner.

Why don't we ever talk about Plymouth? One of life's great questions.

  251. SITTER!

    Chelsea 2-0 West Brom

Nemanja Matic misses a sitter! Again West Brom switch off form a corner, the big Serbian is in acres of space but leans back and slams his volley over the bar. He's yet to score at Stamford Bridge...

Arsenal v Manchester United (17:30 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce

BBC Match of the Day commentator

"Arsenal's problems won't be scoring this season. But without the sidelined Laurent Koscielny, they've looked particularly vulnerable at the back and can't close matches down.

"And what sort of defence will United field? David de Gea has been the only constant factor there this season. It seems he will play despite a finger injury. If not, they'll be in big trouble.

"Arsenal need to prove they can win against the Premier League's top sides. United need to win away anywhere. Their wait will continue though."

Doug, Cumbria: If Yacob's challenge was a red card because he had two feet off the ground, then why exactly wasn't Cahill sent off for his wild challenge on Sanchez? At least Yacob got the ball.

Ali, Edinburgh: Feel terrible for Ryan Taylor, poor guy. Just hope it's character building, backing him to have a stunning managerial career and lead Newcastle to a swathe of titles in the 2030s (with Mike Ashley's floating robot head still overseeing everything). You heard it here first.

  272. PENALTY APPEAL

    Stoke 1-2 Burnley

Victor Moses goes to ground in the penalty area- a blatant dive! He's lucky not to be booked. Marvellous backheel from Bojan in the build-up. Moments later Moses drills one in and Tom Heaton claws it out.

Will Jackson: It's a terrible challenge. Both feet off the ground, both stupid and dangerous. 100%, definite red for me.

  276. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Everton 1-0 West Ham United

Romelu Lukaku has the ball in the net again but this time the flag does go up. The Belgian is not too impressed with Ross Barkley, who chased a through ball from an offside position, prompting the assistant referee's decision. In Barkley's defence, it looked like Lukaku was also offside.

  278. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Manchester City 1-1 Swansea

Gael Clichy very nearly ends the 2014-15 goal of the season competition with one flash of his left boot. The Manchester City full-back laces a shot from 30 yards which flies across the keeper but smashes against the post.

"From a player's perspective, we're torn apart for the way we behave and act because we're role models. So I think it's poor that some members of the hierarchy are behaving this way and saying things that they're saying. It's disappointing to say the least.

"Wigan captain Emmerson Boyce has spoken positively about Malky Mackay's arrival. Boyce has been at that club for as long as I can remember and is a huge part of that club's history, lifting the FA Cup for them.

"He doesn't deserve to be in this position. What else is he going to say? I doubt he will turn around and say I'm not going to play for this club."

  367. Ince doubts Whelan row will speed up Rooney Rule

Former Blackburn manager Paul Ince is not sure that Dave Whelan's comments will accelerate the introduction of the 'Rooney Rule' into English football.

"I think Dave Whelan is a fantastic chairman and what he has done for Wigan is brilliant," says 47-year-old Ince, who has also managed Macclesfield and MK Dons.

"I can't sit here and say Dave Whelan is a racist because he has made these comments. I'm not saying that at all.

"But there is not enough black managers and coaches considering there are 25% of black players. But it is down to black players to get their coaching qualifications. There's no point having the Rooney Rule if there are only 14 players who have done their qualifications."

  368. What has the FA been doing?

Former England midfielder Paul Ince on the ongoing FA investigation into Malky Mackay: "The FA hasn't done enough to sort this situation out. The issue with Malky and Cardiff happened a long time ago and it makes me wonder what the FA has been doing to not even bring the case forward.

"I'm not saying Malky is guilty or innocent, but if we already knew if the FA had found him guilty or not guilty it would change how we view this whole subject.

"The FA should have put this to bed ages ago. Dave Whelan must have known what he was getting himself into by taking him on and no decision made by the FA but the fact that we don't know makes it difficult for everyone."

"If Newcastle beat QPR it'll be five league wins on the bounce and no team, not even a rampant Chelsea, have managed that so far this season.

    Newcastle celebrate

"Are Rangers capable of tripping Newcastle up? At first sight you wouldn't have thought so but I'm paying attention to Rangers' much-improved form.

"In their last four league games, they defeated Aston Villa, drew with Manchester City and were narrowly beaten by Chelsea and Liverpool so - though they remain in the drop zone - spirits have lifted."

"Manchester City will be hoping the international break will bring a change of fortune for the resumption of domestic matters. The champions haven't yet got anywhere near the standards they have set themselves.

"However, they are facing a current Swansea team who are fresh from beating Arsenal, have already been to Manchester and won this season, and who asked Chelsea strong questions at Stamford Bridge. They have only lost once in their last six league matches."

    When wayward shots went wrong...

    BBC Radio 5 live

Mark Boorsma: As a linesman at a cup final I helpfully returned the ball for a throw in by kicking the ball out of the ground. I also scored in a cup final I was refereeing but that's another story!

David in Manchester: When I was about 17 on a school trip me and the boys were hitting long distance passes to one another. My girlfriend at the time emerged from the adjacent building with a brew for both of us. I decided to take it on the volley and sure enough hit her square in the face, deflected off the porch roof and hit her on the top of the head again. We all just stood in silence with hands on mouth. Terrible scenes!

Paul in Mill Hill: Hit a shot over the crossbar at the park, it flew and hit a girl off her bike who was riding on the pavement. Luckily the next person to walk by was a doctor!

    Leicester v Sunderland (15:00 GMT)

    John Motson

BBC Match of the Day commentator

"We're still in November but you sense this fixture has the air of a relegation tussle. Enough games have been played this season to see a shape developing and it looks as if Leicester and Sunderland might struggle.

"Promoted Leicester haven't won, and barely scored, in six subsequent games since the magnificent 5-3 win over Manchester United, and Sunderland are faring little better.

"I see this game as being a tight, low-scoring affair between two very nervous teams."

Everton v West Ham (15:00 GMT)

    Steve Wilson

BBC Match of the Day commentator

"Everton are a little adrift of where they would expect to be in the league, but injuries have been a plague almost from week one.

"Southampton might be getting the bulk of the votes for this season's surprise package, but West Ham's resurgence is arguably just as big a shock.

"Everton have quietly putting together a six-game unbeaten run in league and cup and West Ham will have to be at their very best at Goodison to stop that continuing."

    Huddersfield 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

    Jeremy Helan

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Jeremy Helan was shown two yellow cards at Huddersfield two seasons ago but referee Mick Russell forgot to send the Frenchman off.

It was the only talking point from a drab 0-0 contest... Let's hope history isn't going to repeat itself today.

Only 26 goals have been scored in games involving Sheffield Wednesday this season; a Championship-low. Unsurprisingly, it is still goalless at the John Smith's Stadium.

"That's what the majority might think, but having been at this fixture last season I wouldn't dare to be quite so sure.

"Just over a year ago, Albion were seconds away from their first win away to Chelsea for exactly 30 years - and then referee Andre Marriner awarded a penalty to the home side, the very reminder of which will have Baggies fans fuming all over again."

    Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink got off to a winning start as manager of Burton Albion on Monday. Now in his first home game in charge his side could move to the top of the league with a win over Luton, but John Still's side are flying after nine wins from their last 11 in the league.

Hartlepool could move off the bottom of the table with a win over struggling York at Victoria Park, while Shrewsbury look to build on their midweek FA cup heroics away at Exeter.

  413. KICK-OFF

Huddersfield v Sheffield Wednesday (12:15 GMT)

Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray told Sky Sports: "We haven't won in nine but I've been delighted with our performances. I've every confidence we can get a good result today."

Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell added: "Our home form has been good and we want to turn this place into a fortress."

  414. League One preview

The stand-out fixture in League One sees first take on third at Ashton Gate. Bristol City's unbeaten start to the season finally came to an end last weekend, now faltering Preston will be looking to topple the division's pace-setters.

It was Mark Cooper's Swindon who put a stop to City's run. They now look to build on that win away at Peterborough, who have slipped away from the automatic promotion spots after three defeats in four.

Barnsley will take a bumper away following across South Yorkshire to Chesterfield, as they look for a third win on the bounce.

  415. Move for Zoko

League One side Bradford City have signed Francois Zoko on a loan deal until January from Championship strugglers Blackpool.

The 31-year-old striker joined The Seasiders in the summer, but is yet to start a match under new manager Lee Clark. Zoko has made 14 appearances so far this season, but will now stay with The Bantams until 17 January.

He will be available to make his Bradford debut against Gillingham at Valley Parade today.

  416. 'Jimmy's mindset is fantastic'

    Jermaine Jenas

"His mindset is fantastic to go there and work with players he's probably never heard of and work to improve them."

    Burton turn to Jimmy

    Football Focus

Former Leeds, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been hired as manager of League Two Burton. He has been talking to Football Focus:

    Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

"I don't see it as League Two," says Hasselbaink. "I see it as a great opportunity to work at a great club, with great players and a good setup. These opportunities don't often come up which is why I wanted to grab it with both hands.

"I've applied for a few jobs but that is in the past and hopefully I can bring some success here.

"I like to be on the pitch coaching with the players. In Holland there is a mentality that you go to train the young ones first. Having grown up in Holland it is a normal process.

"My time of football is finished and now it is about looking forward as a coach and getting good football being played."

  418. Sturridge blow for Liverpool

    BBC Radio 5 live

Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge will be out until the New Year with a thigh injury.

"When you've had injuries, one of biggest things that sticks in your mind when you go back on to the pitch is 'is my body going to survive?' It's the last thing you want on your mind as a player," says former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

    Daniel Sturridge

"There are two issues around Daniel Sturridge. One is that Liverpool are struggling and desperate to get him back. Whether they are rushing him, I'm not sure.

"The second thing is that, as a player, your patience is shocking. You always want to get out on to the pitch and push yourself that little bit further.

"In this case Sturridge probably came back from his last injury, thought 'the gaffer is going to start me after the international break', pushed too hard and had a recurrence of the first injury."

  419. Post update

    Jermaine Jenas

Former England midfielder on Football Focus

"I love the way Adam Lallana moves, he's so silky and he can shoot with either foot. When he's had his chance he has done well for me."

    Adam Lallana

Mark Lawrenson adds: "He [Lallana] did well for England in the last two games. He makes things happen. Boy, do Liverpool need him at the moment.

"It will be interesting when Daniel Sturridge comes back because the two of them together could be very good."

  420. 'We still believe we can finish in the top four'

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana talking on Football Focus says: "The season could have gone better so far. There was going to be high standards this season after what they achieved last time.

"We are the ones that can change this and we are determined to do that. We still believe we can finish in the top four, it would be a remarkable achievement."

  421. 'I'd be embarrassed if I was a Wigan player'

    Malky Mackay

"I'd be embarrassed if I was a Wigan player after what happened this week.

"Emmerson Boyce got sent out (to talk to the media) by the club and I felt a bit sorry for him really. He's had to come out and back the new manager."

We're asking for your tales of when wayward shots went wrong...

Craig, West Mids: In the park once I shanked a wayward volley high over the chain fence surrounding the pitch and watched it dip (rather beautifully) on to the back of the head of a six- year-old boy holding hands with his mum. He turned and shouted: "Don't ever hit me again!" to his confused little sister stood six feet behind him. Couldn't stand up for laughing. Couldn't have done it again if I tried.

Louis Rossi: I was playing headers and volleys in the park when an elderly terrier began haring around after the ball. A friend teed the ball up for me and for perhaps the first time ever I hit a volley sweet as a nut towards the bottom corner. Had the keeper beaten all ends up. The terrier had second thoughts, racing across the goal line and blocking the shot with its flank. If memory serves, the little dog was physically lifted off its feet.

Michael Richardson: I once smashed a shot against the post which deflected out and hit a spectator breaking his nose. I went over to see if he was OK and discovered the injured man was the referee who had sent me off the previous weekend.

  423. 'You can't say what Whelan said'

    Mark Lawrenson

    Football Analyst on Football Focus

This week, Wigan appointed Malky Mackay, who is still being investigated by the FA over allegations he sent racist, sexist and homophobic texts and emails to colleagues during his time at Cardiff.

Latics owner Dave Whelan has defended his decision to appoint Mackay but courted controversy of his own with remarks that he then had to apologise for.

    Here are Lawro's thoughts:

"I can understand why you would appoint him (Mackay) from a football point of view because he knows that division but what if he is proven guilty?

"You can't say what Whelan said. He has been fantastic for Wigan but it is time for someone to be in his place. A chief executive. Somebody at that club needs to think before they speak."

  425. Remembering the Arsenal Invincibles

Arsenal v Manchester United (17:30 GMT)

    Football Focus

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry talks about the 'Invincibles' team of the 2003-04 season on Football Focus: "The key was our togetherness. People talk about the Arsenal way but that team in four passes sometimes there was a goal. Every player was unselfish. Everybody was willing to give the ball to the guy in the better position. The generosity was outstanding.

    Thierry Henry

"You think that you can't lose. But you can't think you're unbeatable. It was an everyday process to ensure we remained unbeaten.

"The hardest part for me is when you are already champions,. You still have to play the last three or four games and to keep the commitment is difficult when you don't need to win. But it sunk in for us all what we had done when the final whistle blew on the last game.

"Chelsea are capable of doing it. But we were the first to do it in the modern era."

  426. Yesterday's Championship action

Brentford 2-1 Fulham: An injury-time winner saw newly-promoted Brentford come from behind to beat Fulham and move to within one point of Championship leaders Derby.

Aston Villa v Southampton (20:00 GMT, Monday)

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says he is annoyed by comments made by skipper Ron Vlaar's agent, who claimed contract talks had broken down between the Premier League club and the Dutchman.

    Lambert and Vlaar

Vlaar, who joined from Feyenoord in 2012, is out of contract next summer and has been linked with his former Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

"I saw his agent's comments and I think he has been a tad over the top," said Lambert. "We have been speaking to Ron and the agent said 'thanks but no thanks' basically.

"You shouldn't wash dirty laundry in public. I'm not blaming Ron - he's been great. We're trying our best to keep him - we'd love to keep him. We've put our foot forward on that front and I'm annoyed that the agent said the ball is in our court."

Well, in his latest column for BBC Sport, Robbie Savage goes even further and says neither Arsenal or Manchester United have any hope of winning the Premier League and are only fighting to finish fourth - to claim the last Champions League spot.

"The sad fact for both clubs is that we are only in November and neither of them can have any realistic hopes of winning the Premier League," says Savage. "They have something else in common in that going forward they are brilliant, but defensively they are miles off the standard required to be champions.

"When you consider what such fantastic managers Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal are, then it is amazing that they have failed so badly to get the balance they need in their teams."

Former striker John Hartson, 39, says kicking Hammers team-mate Eyal Berkovic in the head in a 1998 training-ground incident was the biggest regret of his career.

Hartson was fined by West Ham and the Football Association after the assault, which was filmed by a television crew.

"Eyal Berkovic was a good lad and to this day I don't know why I reacted the way I did," Hartson told BBC Radio 5 live's Inside the Dressing Room programme. "Even today it is the biggest regret of my career."

Everton's Leighton Baines is doubtful with a hamstring injury, while midfielder Gareth Barry appears likely to miss out with an ankle problem. The Toffees will also monitor the fitness of James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman, Darron Gibson, Steven Pienaar and Kevin Mirallas.

West Ham will assess Diafra Sakho, who did not play during the international break because of a back injury. Stewart Downing is also a doubt after hurting his knee representing England.

Andy Carroll, who made his comeback from an ankle injury in the Hammers' last league game, played and scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Fulham last week, boosting his chances of starting on Saturday.

This morning we are working in tandem with The Danny Baker Show on BBC Radio 5 live and asking you: Where have your wayward shots landed? And it seems nowhere is safe.

The Ha Ha Club: John Brogan's wayward shot smashed through the open hatch of an Ice Cream van at the back of the terrace!

James Morgan: I once hit a small girl off her bike with a thunderbolt volley. Moving target as well.

Vincent Hall: I once smashed a sports centre window and the ball landed on the snooker table while it was in the middle of a frame.

    Ronnie O'Sullivan

Ronnie O'Sullivan - a man unlikely to take kindly to a football landing on the baize mid-frame.

Chelsea v West Brom (15:00 GMT)

Football writer Amy Lawrence believes Jose Mourinho keeps saying that Chelsea will lose in the Premier League this season because... he wants to go unbeaten.

    Let her explain.

"It feels like Mourinho knows the Premier League needs to be more competitive for Chelsea. He knows he has got a team better than everybody else. He knows he has handled difficult away games.

"And the idea of doing something he hasn't done yet - going through a season unbeaten - appeals to him."

  460. Berahino can be proud - Ince

Chelsea v West Brom (15:00 GMT)

Former England skipper Paul Ince says West Brom striker Saido Berahino should be full of confidence when he faces Chelsea - despite missing out on his full international debut.

    Saido Berahino

Berahino, 21, was left on the bench for Tuesday's friendly against Scotland.

"He will be disappointed because he's a very good young striker. But that's all he is at this moment in time - a young striker with loads of potential," says Ince.

"To be involved in the full England squad is the next step for an Under 21 player, so he's closer to getting there. That's the biggest accolade you can have."

  461. Post update

Chelsea v West Brom (15:00 GMT)

Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle is fit despite a recent illness, while striker Diego Costa has fully recovered from niggling hamstring and groin problems. The Blues hope Cesc Fabregas will be able to play despite a hamstring injury, but Nathan Ake is ruled out with a similar complaint.

Craig Gardner could return to the West Brom line-up after serving a ban. Jonas Olsson and Sebastien Pocognoli are likely to remain out with Achilles and hamstring injuries respectively.

    BBC Radio 5 live

But we're going to keep it light throughout the day, so here are some of your earlier comments to our first question.

This morning we are working in tandem with The Danny Baker Show on BBC Radio 5 live and asking you: Where have your wayward shots landed?

Mike Fisher: I once smashed an old lady's greenhouse warming up for a game, she refused my offer of money as it happened all the time.

John Marshall: Recreated Gary Rowell strikes for Sunderland in my front garden and smashed our front room bay window #oops

Mark Houghton: I skied a left-foot volley when I was nine at training in a sports hall that looped up into a basketball net. Sweet if intended!

Another newspaper also focuses on Whelan's interview, with the Independent saying he is likely to face a long ban from the game.

  465. Saturday's newspapers

    Daily Mirror

    Daily Mirror

We move into the Championship for the latest newspaper back page and the Daily Mirror focuses on the quotes from Cardiff owner Vincent Tan concerning Wigan chairman Dave Whelan and the Latics' appointment of ex-Cardiff boss Malky Mackay.

Whelan has apologised for remarks he used in a controversial newspaper interview where he made comments about Jewish and Chinese people described as "offensive" by West Ham owner David Gold. Both Whelan and Mackay have denied they are racist.

  466. ...and at the bottom

    Premier League table

Burnley are aiming to win an away Premier League game for the first time this season when they face Stoke. QPR could also move out of the bottom three, but travel to in-form Newcastle.

The three teams that won promotion to the Premier League are stuck in the bottom three. Leicester are 18th and will be hoping to defeat Sunderland.

  467. Life at the top...

    Premier League table

Manchester United have won the Premier League title 13 times, Arsenal on three occasions. But both sides need to sort themselves out this year, if they are to catch Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

The leaders will be expecting to take all three points when they entertain West Brom, while Manchester City face a tough test against Garry Monk's Swansea side, who find themselves fifth in the table.

Second-placed Southampton play Aston Villa in the Monday night game.

  468. Man Utd should have kept Welbeck - Ince

Arsenal v Manchester United (17:30 GMT)

Former Manchester United skipper Paul Ince believes his former club should not have allowed Danny Welbeck to join Arsenal.

"When he left Manchester United it was a shock to me," says Ince. "He has got pace to get behind teams and create gaps for others to exploit.

"I think it was a bad, bad decision to let him go. He offers something different to what Manchester United have got. They haven't got pace - Rooney is not the quickest, neither is Van Persie and Falcao is injured.

"Since he has gone to Arsenal his performances have been fantastic. I don't think he has got anything to prove to Manchester United."

  469. Saturday's newspapers

    The Sun

    The Sun

The big game of the day is at Emirates Stadium as Arsenal play Manchester United. Gunners striker Danny Welbeck will be desperate to play and prove his ex-boss Louis van Gaal wrong.

However, the England striker is a doubt because of a hamstring injury he picked up during England's 3-1 win against Scotland.

The back page of The Sun leads off on an interview with Van Gaal, who says he and previous managers Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes did not rate the striker as a first-team player.
