40 Years of Hip Hop

Huey celebrates 40 years of hip hop with contributions from Kool Herc, Pete Rock, KRS-One, Ice-T, Mr Thing, Goldie, Mr Freeze, Homeboy Sandman and more.

40 years ago DJ Kool Herc threw a party in The Bronx, New York and Hip Hop was born. The rest, as they say, is history.

Huey celebrates Herc's legacy and 40 years of Hip Hop with a very special show featuring contributions from Kool Herc himself, Pete Rock, Krs-One, Ice-T, Mr Thing, Goldie, Mr Freeze, Homeboy Sandman and more.

Huey plays the records that made Hip Hop possible, from James Brown to the Incredible Bongo Band, Jimmy Castor Bunch to Babe Ruth, and The Last Poets to Gil Scott Heron.

Huey also dedicates 30 minutes to each of the 4 pillars of Hip Hop. Laid down in the Bronx by Afrika Bambaataa, MCing, DJing, B-Boying, and Graffiti are the foundations of the entire genre.

Ice-T talks to Huey about the art of MCing; Mr Thing puts together a special scratch mix; The legendary Mr Freeze of The Rocksteady Crew tells Huey what makes a B-Boy; and the one and only Goldie tells Huey how Graffiti writing changed his life.
