Twitter 'knocked cyclist off bike' case given to CPS

The case of a woman who tweeted she had knocked a cyclist off his bike after an alleged crash has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Trainee accountant Emma Way, 21, stated on Twitter in May: "Definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier.

"I have right of way - he doesn't even pay road tax!"

Cyclist Toby Hockley, of Norwich, told the BBC he was thrown into a hedge and was "lucky to be alive". Norfolk Police said it had passed a file to the CPS.

Police began investigating the case after other users on Twitter forwarded Miss Way's comment to the force.

Her tweet included the well-known hash-tag #bloodycyclists.

In an interview with Radio Norfolk in May, Miss Way said the tweet was her "biggest mistake" but disputed Mr Hockley's version of events.

He said he was nearing the end of the Boudicca Sportive 100-mile ride when he was hit by a car's wing mirror and the driver did not stop.

Miss Way was suspended from her job as a trainee accountant while police investigated.

Her employer Larking Gowen refused to comment on whether Miss Way had been reinstated.
