Isle of Man TT: RAF man Darren Sharpe wins TT course triathlon

Manx triathlete Darren Sharpe has won the first ever Isle of Man TT triathlon, which included cycling tree laps of the famous Mountain Course.

Representing the RAF, he completed the gruelling challenge in a time of 10 hours 16 minutes.

The 39-year-old said he was "delighted" to win the inaugural competition.

Participants needed to complete a 2.4 mile swim in Douglas Bay, a three-lap bike ride around the TT course, followed by a full marathon.

Natalie Wood became the first ever ladies champion in a time of 11 hours 18 minutes.

Race director Richard Wallace said: "Ever since I started organising triathlons many years ago I had always wanted to run an endurance event on the Isle of Man because of the legendary TT course, coupled with the way in which the island and its communities embrace all forms of sport.

"It was fantastic to see so many taking on the challenge. Hopefully it can grow as an event. I believe it has the potential to be a world-class competition."
