Conservatives attack gay activists at rally in Tbilisi

A planned gay rights rally in Georgia had to be abandoned after protesters, including Orthodox priests, disrupted the event.

Demonstrators who objected to the rally in Tbilisi managed to break through police cordons, despite heavy security measures.

Police guarded several dozen gay activists and bussed them out of the city centre shortly after they arrived at the gathering.

Damien McGuinness reports.
