As it happened: Oscars 2013

Key Points

  • British actor Daniel Day-Lewis has made Oscars history as the first man to win three best actor awards. Alongside this year's honour for Lincoln, he won for There Will be Blood and My Left Foot
  • Argo won the award for best picture, despite the fact that Ben Affleck was not nominated in the best director category - the first time this has happened since Driving Miss Daisy in 1989
  • Taiwanese director Ang Lee has joined filmmakers such as Clint Eastwood, Oliver Stone and Steven Spielberg in winning an Oscar for best director on two occasions. His first was for Brokeback Mountain
  • Anne Hathaway has done an awards triple this year, winning best supporting actress for Les Miserables at the Golden Globes, the Baftas and the Oscars
  • Adele's best original song award for Skyfall was the first ever for a Bond film. For Your Eyes Only was nominated in 1981, but lost to the theme from Arthur
  • The 85th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and hosted for the first time by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane
