Cory Monteith, who played heartthrob Finn Hudson in the hit TV series Glee, has been found dead in a Vancouver hotel on Saturday.

The cause of death is not immediately apparent, but police have ruled out foul play.

BBC News website readers have been sharing their comments and memories via email, and there has been reaction on Twitter.

I went to rehab with Cory in April.

I just wish people were better educated when it comes to addiction. He was an amazing and exceptional human being who inspired and helped people around him to believe in miracles.

I'm so devastated by this news. He told me to never forget it's a disease that kills.

He really wanted to get well. His life story is remarkable.

I want to respect Cory so I cannot give too many details about rehab, but I want to say there is a lot of misconception about drug addiction.

He was a very good person and he helped me a lot in rehab.

I cannot believe this. I met him exactly eight months ago today. I was on a last-minute trip to LA and was on my way to get some food when I saw him.

I could tell from the moment he said that it would be great to get a photo. He was such a kind hearted person.

He had a very gentle sense about him - very sensitive person and very open. We chatted for a few minutes and we talked about the show and how his life was 'finally going right'. Such a sad ending.

Some friends and I were having breakfast in a Paris cafe a few summers ago when we spotted Cory Monteith sitting a few tables away. He had a baseball cap pulled low and was having a quiet breakfast with a girl. We took a crafty photo, but didn't want to disturb them, as they were close together, chatting away. We couldn't believe it. Elizabeth Clement, Scotland, UK

I am absolutely gutted to hear this sad news. Cory was an amazing actor and I went to watch Glee in Manchester which was fab. My thoughts are with his family. Much love Cory xxx. I will miss you xxxxx Babs Smith, North Wales, UK

Cory was one of my many idols. He changed and possibly saved my life. He was a brilliant actor and singer. Although I never personally met him, he was a great person. Glee will never be the same without him. Rest In Peace Cory! You'll always be in our hearts. Lara, UK

I am a MAJOR Glee fan. Glee changed my life for the better. Cory's lovable character really reached everyone's heart. RIP Cory. Don't Stop Believing. Naomi, Scotland, UK

In Glee's Season four Episode called 'I Do', Finn says to Rachel "We both know how this thing ends. We are end game. I know that and you know that!" Glee definitely won't be the same without Cory Monteith. Broken-heartedly I'm looking forward to Season five to see how they are going to play this thing out. My heart is broken. I was shocked. My tears fell when I heard the news and when they started posting his pictures. He's one of my favourites. Wherever you are now, we really miss your voice. Thank you for making me smile and making my heart beat fast whenever you sing. Mae Ann Giducos, Davao City, Philippines
