Why is gin 'under threat'?

Juniper bushes - which provide the berries that give gin its taste - are under threat from a combination of loss of habitat and a deadly new fungus.

Scientists say they have disappeared from over a third of the places in Britain where they were previously found.

Dr Deborah Long, of Plantlife Scotland who is carrying out research on the fungus, told the Today programme's Justin Webb it was a new disease which they did not know much about.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 21 June 2013.
