A teenager has been charged with murder after a woman, thought to be in her 70s, was stabbed to death.

The woman was discovered by police officers at a property on Summergangs Road, in Hull, with a man, believed to be in his 80s, at 03:30 BST on Saturday.

Both had suffered serious injuries and the woman died at the scene.

Humberside Police said a 17-year-old was later arrested in Hull city centre in connection with the incident.

He has been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder and has been remanded in custody, to appear at Hull Magistrates' Court on Monday.

A post-mortem examination showed the woman died from stab wounds to the chest.

The elderly man was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary and is in a serious, but stable condition.

Police said all the people involved in the incident were known to each other.

The family of the woman who died is being supported by specially trained officers, police added.

A police spokesman said: "The investigation is currently in its very early stages and inquiries are ongoing."
