Pakistan politician Imran Khan discharged from hospital

Pakistani politician Imran Khan has been discharged from hospital two weeks after falling from a platform at an election campaign rally.

He has been fitted with a spinal brace to aid his recovery and walked out through a back exit of the Lahore hospital, avoiding waiting reporters.

Officials said on Tuesday that Mr Khan had walked unaided for about 300m.

His PTI party gained significant ground during the recent general election, which was won by Nawaz Sharif's PML-N.

Doctors at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial hospital say that Mr Khan will in the short term stay at his Zaman Park family residence in Lahore and that he may still need a couple of weeks of rest.

But he may be allowed to travel to his Islamabad residence within a few days.

On Tuesday they said that a series of X-rays on Mr Khan's spine had confirmed the continued healing and good alignment of his back bones.

The 11 May general election has generally been seen as a huge success for his PTI party, which fell just short of becoming the official opposition in Pakistan.

The election marked the first transition of power between democratically elected governments since the creation of the state of Pakistan in 1947.
