'I still had a childhood but not a normal childhood'

This 17-year-old girl - who we are not naming - was 14 when her stepfather was jailed.

Newsbeat went to meet her at a support centre run by the charity Barnardo's to find out what her life's been like.

She's one of around 200,000 children and young people with a parent behind bars in the UK.

There are calls for a new law to be introduced to force the justice system to keep records of them so they can access to support more easily.

Newsbeat has been told the government is committed to making improvements.
