Business, Innovation and Skills Committee: TTIP

Help

On 25 November 2014, the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee took evidence on the impact of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

The witnesses were:

  • Frances O'Grady, General Secretary, TUC
  • Sean McGuire, Brussels Director, CBI
  • David Babbs, Executive Director, 38 Degrees
  • Polly Jones, Head of Campaigns and Policy, World Development Movement

TTIP is a trade deal between EU and US which is predicted to boost US GDP by $90bn and EU GDP by $120bn.

Critics of TTIP have argued that the deal would leave the NHS vulnerable to private contractors, although the government has denied that the NHS would be open to competition.

The group 38 Degrees are campaigning against the trade deal.
