Snow closes schools and affects travel in Scotland
- Published
Heavy snow falls have closed a number of schools and affected driving conditions.
Several schools in the Highlands, Perthshire and Fife have been shut because of the weather. The M90 south of Perth has been affected by snow.
The Met Office has a yellow "be aware" warning in place for Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales.
It warns of wintry showers with ice and snow falling to low levels in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Snow could accumulate to depths of 4-8cm at around 200m in western parts of Scotland.
The Met Office said ice would be a hazard across much of northern Britain.
Wintry conditions have closed a small number of schools in the Highlands and in Perth and Kinross.
Primary schools in Glenlyon, Kinloch Rannoch, Madderty, Logiealmond, Comrie, Crieff and Muthill were shut, while Crieff High School was opened for local pupils only.
Balfron High School was also closed due to what was described as "extreme weather making travel dangerous".
There were several minor accidents through the morning on roads in Stirlingshire and Perthshire, while Traffic Scotland warned of hazardous conditions on the M90 around Kinross due to heavy snow.
Bad weather has also forced the closure of a number of schools in Fife.
Kelty Primary and St Josephs Primary, also in Kelty, are closed along with Saline Primary and nursery. Cardenden Primary is also closed due to problems with their heating system.
