My mother died to save Nigeria from Ebola

In Nigeria, one woman involved in the fight against Ebola is being celebrated as a national heroine for her part in restricting the spread.

Nigeria is now Ebola-free, but that could have been very different had it not been for the actions of Dr Stella Adadevoh who treated Patrick Sawyer, Nigeria’s “patient zero”, but then contracted the disease and later died.

Mr Sawyer was originally treated for malaria after collapsing on a flight from Liberia. Dr Adadevoh was the first doctor to suspect him of having Ebola and oversaw his quarantine.

Dr Adadevoh's son Bankole Cardoso says he's "proud" of his mum's actions.
