Gwent Police constable sacked for using cocaine

A Gwent Police constable has been sacked for using cocaine.

A force spokesperson said the officer went before a fast-track disciplinary hearing on 30 September.

He was dismissed for "discreditable conduct relating to cocaine use" following an in-force drugs test. BBC Wales understands the test followed intelligence being passed to the force.

A second officer has been dismissed for breaching the Data Protection Act in an unrelated incident.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: "The disciplinary hearing concluded with the subject (a police constable) being dismissed for gross misconduct.

"We won't comment further as the subject still has an opportunity to apply for leave to appeal the decision."
