Malaysian mangrove snake found in Ipswich rehomed in Norfolk

A stowaway mangrove snake that was found 6,000 miles away from its home in Malaysia has been rehomed in Norfolk.

The 3ft (1m) black and yellow ringed snake was found in a crate of timber at Ransomes Europark, in Ipswich, last week.

It has been nursed back to full health by the RSPCA and taken to Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens, near Great Yarmouth.

An RSPCA inspector said the snake had "probably shut its body down" until it was found.

Scott Bird, from Thrigby Hall Wildlife Park, said the young snake would spend some time in quarantine before being placed with an adult of its species.
