Dry but cold night

Sales of second-hand vinyl albums and singles are benefiting sick pets by almost £50,000 a year, according to the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA).
Following a recent surge in popularity for vinyl, it says three of its charity shops in London are among its "top shops" in the UK for selling the most records a year.
Over the last 12 months, the PDSA shop in Kilburn sold 1,122 records, with its Kentish Town branch selling 958, and West Ealing 944.

Central Line: No service between North Acton and Queensway. on Saturday and Sunday due to track and drainage replacement work at White City. Replacement buses will operate.

'Most wanted' fugitives caught
Two fugitives who featured on the UK's most wanted list have been captured in Europe within 24 hours of each other, the National Crime Agency. Jayson McDonald was found hiding under a bed in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, while Paul Monk was captured at his luxury villa in Alicante on the Spanish coast.

Mr Monk, 54, from Romford, east London, was allegedly involved in the handover of one kilo of cocaine in Cockfosters, London, while Mr McDonald, 37, of Acton, west London, is suspected of conspiring to import and supply heroin and cocaine as part of a Europe-wide organised crime network.

However, he rejected the school's challenge against the adjudicator's conclusion it was not permissible to include "Catholic service" as one of its faith-based over-subscription criteria.
Catholic service could include activities like reading or singing in the choir, playing an instrument, altar serving or flower arranging.
London Oratory School wins selection claims action
A judge said the conclusion reached by an education watchdog relating to The London Oratory School was "flawed" and must be quashed.
Mr Justice Cobb said the Office of the Schools Adjudicator's decision on the issue was "reached by a process which was procedurally unfair to the school".
Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out said that of 130,000 abusive Premier League posts on social media this term, Chelsea had more than any other club.
Mourinho, whose team have a seven-point lead with a game in hand, said: "I think it is because we are boring.

London Air Ambulance is flying longer hours during the summer. Until 2 September the helicopter will be used until 21:21, previously it could only fly until at 18:45 each day.

Chief Executive Officer Graham Hodgkin said: "Previously, due to affordability, we couldn't contract the additional pilots and fire crew needed to cover the summer months but thanks to those who have donated to the Your London, Your Helicopter campaign so far, we have now been able to do that."
Official figures show unemployment has fallen to its lowest level in seven years. The jobless total was down by 76,000 in December to March, and by 10,000 in London.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has not ruled out becoming a minister in the first year of a Tory government but said David Cameron would not be in favour of such a move.
During a visit to the site of a new hotel in North Greenwich, Mr Johnson said: "I just don't see how. It's not for me to rule out, the Prime Minister has already made his views pretty clear about that."
The crew at Teddington lifeboat station were called at 01:07 to reports of vessels taking on water.
Crew member James Kavanagh said: "The river was littered with floating debris and owners of the rowing boats tethered to the pontoon were frantically trying to salvage as much as they could."
There were no injuries and any floating debris was returned to the riverside, the RNLI said.

Protein could boost cancer immunity
Scientists have found a protein they believe can help boost immunity to cancer and viruses.
Researchers from Imperial College London say the discovery could open the door to new therapies.
Experiments on mice and human cells showed it promoted an increase of cytotoxic T cells, which kill cancer cells and cells infected with viruses.
The study, published in the journal Science, involved researchers at Queen Mary University of London, ETH Zurich and Harvard Medical School.

Gang 'beat 13-year-olds' in Crouch Hill

A group of teenagers videoed a gang attacking two 13-year-old girls, reports the Islington Gazette.
The newspaper said during the attack, outside Crouch Hall Court, Hanley Road, Crouch Hill, the group stamped on the girls' heads after punching and kicking them.
The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was declared dead at the scene. A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned at an east London police station.

National Theatre boss quits
Tessa Ross has unexpectedly stepped down as chief executive of the National Theatre, just six months into the job.
Ross, a former head of Film4, joined the theatre alongside its new artistic director Rufus Norris last year. Announcing her resignation, she said: "It has become clear to me that the new leadership structure, with a separate role of chief executive, is not right for the NT at this time."
Air ambulance to fly longer hours
London Air Ambulance is flying longer hours during the summer. Until 2 September the helicopter will be used until 21:21, previously it could only fly until at 18:45 each day.
Chief Executive Officer Graham Hodgkin said: "Previously, due to affordability, we couldn't contract the additional pilots and fire crew needed to cover the summer months but thanks to those who have donated to the Your London, Your Helicopter campaign so far, we have now been able to do that."

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has not ruled out becoming a minister in the first year of a Tory government but said David Cameron would not be in favour of such a move.
During a visit to the site of a new hotel in North Greenwich, Mr Johnson said: "I just don't see how. It's not for me to rule out, the Prime Minister has already made his views pretty clear about that."
RNLI crews salvage sinking vessels in Teddington
A floating restaurant and several other vessels began sinking yesterday evening after a pontoon failed in Richmond-Upon-Thames.
The crew at Teddington lifeboat station were called at 01:07 to reports of vessels taking on water.
Crew member James Kavanagh said: "The river was littered with floating debris and owners of the rowing boats tethered to the pontoon were frantically trying to salvage as much as they could."
There were no injuries and any floating debris was returned to the riverside, the RNLI said.

Protein could boost cancer immunity
Scientists have found a protein they believe can help boost immunity to cancer and viruses.
Researchers from Imperial College London say the discovery could open the door to new therapies.
Experiments on mice and human cells showed it promoted an increase of cytotoxic T cells, which kill cancer cells and cells infected with viruses.
The study, published in the journal Science, involved researchers at Queen Mary University of London, ETH Zurich and Harvard Medical School.

Air passengers 'almost at pre-recession levels'
The number of people flying in and out of UK airports is almost back to pre-recession levels, the Civil Aviation Authority says.
However the numbers of air transport movements differed when comparing London airports with the rest of the UK, There were 31,000 more air transport movements at the London airports in 2014 than in 2013, but the number of movements at all other UK airports fell by 4,000.
Chelsea receive 'most abuse' from trolls

Chelsea football club received more abuse on social media than any other top-flight club, according to a study by anti-discrimination group Kick It Out. The league leaders were the subject of 20,000 discriminatory posts between August 2014 and March 2015, the study found.
Kick It Out wants to form an expert group to tackle internet trolls.

Man suffers serious burns in Richmond bonfire
Firefighters have warned residents never to leave bonfires unattended after a man suffered serious burns after leaving garden waste to burn unsupervised in Richmond, south west London, on Wednesday.
The man noticed the fire had got out of control and had spread to his shed and tried to extinguish it with a garden hose. The London Fire Brigade was called by a builder working nearby who saw the flames.
New Heathrow tunnel will 'relieve Paddington'

Plans for a new 5km tunnel into Heathrow "won't affect Hillingdon" and will relieve congestion in west London, Network Rail bosses have claimed.
The newspaper reports the first phase of public consultation to build the 5km tunnel, directly linking the Great Western line to Heathrow Airport, has now closed.
Leyton Green Road blocked
Leyton Green Road in Leyton is blocked in both directions at the Belmont Park Road junction, because of an accident.
Bus routes 20, 230, 257, 357, W15 and W19 are being diverted and police are advising motorists to avoid the area.
Signal problems delay commuters
Signalling problems during this morning's rush-hour led to delays and disruption for rail and Tube commuters -
On the tube, a signalling fault at Monument caused delays on the Circle and District lines.
In addition, a broken-down train at Streatham Hill disrupted services through the south London station.

Duke's wellies to go on show
A pair of original "Wellington boots" are to go on display to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.
The first Duke of Wellington's handwritten orders from the conflict will also be featured in two exhibitions by English Heritage at Wellington Arch, at Hyde Park Corner, and nearby Apsley House.
British and Prussian forces defeated the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte during the battle on 18 June 1815.
Kingsway closed for 'at least a month'
Camden Council has said northbound Kingsway will remain closed for at "least a month" following a fire under the pavement earlier this month.
Some 5,000 people were evacuated and thousands of properties lost power after the blaze broke out in Holborn on 1 April. The fire was extinguished on 3 April.

Gang 'beat 13-year-olds' in Crouch Hill
Islington Gazette
A group of teenagers videoed a gang attacking two 13-year-old girls, reports the Islington Gazette.
The newspaper said during the attack, outside Crouch Hall Court, Hanley Road, Crouch Hill, the group stamped on the girls' heads after punching and kicking them.
Man stabbed to death in east London
A man has been stabbed to death inside a bar/restaurant in east London. Officers were called to the venue in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, at about 21:50 last night.
The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was declared dead at the scene. A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned at an east London police station.
Appeal for missing 14-year-old girl
Officers are asking for help in finding a missing 14-year-old girl. Hayam Fahmi was last seen by her family on 6 April, when she left her home in Harlesden.
The Met Police said Hayam had been seen in Brent, Camden, Westminster and Lambeth in the last couple of days and officers do not believe she has gone abroad.
