Ukraine's Poroshenko bans Soviet symbols

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed into law legislation that bans the use of communist symbols.

It is part of a package of laws designed to make a complete break with the country's Soviet past and bring the country closer to Europe.

But critics say the move severely restricts free speech and will divide society.

David Stern spoke to local people at one of the country's main Soviet-era symbols, the Motherland statue in Kiev.
