Here’s a relatively rare chance to see the lesser-spotted indie pop band in their natural habitat, on the John Peel Stage, ready to cause massed outbreaks of swooning among sensitive boys with fringes.

Alvvays formed in Toronto in 2012, bonding over a shared love of Teenage Fanclub, the Primitives, Pavement and Celine Dion (according to singer Molly Rankin, at any rate), and quickly amassing a glorious collection of sparklingly literate, slightly mournful pop songs.

After gathering up their audience - partly by supporting The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Peter Bjorn and John on tour - they released their debut album (also called Alvvays) in 2014. It made lifelong fans of Huw Stephens, Radcliffe & Maconie and Lauren Laverne, who also invited them in for a 6 Music session last August. So that’s Alvvays; once heard, forevver smitten.
