Police have arrested nine people after dawn raids in north Wales in connection with the theft of gold jewellery.

The arrests in Wrexham, Flintshire and other areas come after gold from Asian families was targeted in a spate of burglaries over the past five months.

More than 100 officers from North Wales Police and others from Cheshire, Greater Manchester and West Mercia police forces were involved.

They searched a total of 18 addresses, with the majority in north Wales.

Officers swooped on a travellers' site at Ruthin Road, Wrexham, as part of a co-ordinated operation with other properties being entered simultaneously.
