The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay are to attend a ceremony in Dundee marking 100 years since the Battle of Loos.

A series of events are planned in the city to mark the centenary of the World War One battle, which involved an estimated 30,000 Scottish soldiers.

Prince Charles is the Royal Colonel of the Black Watch, which suffered heavy losses in the fighting.

The beacon at the city's Law war memorial will be lit on Friday, before a parade and service on Saturday.

About 250 serving troops and 300 veterans are expected to take part in the parade on the morning of 26 September, marching towards Dundee's City Square.

The square is to be made up like a cathedral for the service, with over 1,000 people including Prince Charles, his wife Camilla and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon expected to attend.

Four ministers from Dundee representing the Church of Scotland, the Roman Catholic Church of Scotland, the Scottish Episcopal and the Chaplain General to the Armed Forces will perform the service.

A "Remembering Loos" event featuring the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Dundee Symphony Orchestra, singer Sheena Wellington and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly is to be held at the Caird Hall on Friday, 25 September.

Tickets are still available for both the City Square service and the Caird Hall event.
