    Broken cloud and also some clearer spells this evening and overnight with perhaps one or two light wintry showers this evening though most places will stay dry.  Minimum Temperature: 1C (34F).

  3. Driver of tipper truck that struck power cable had to be carried to safety

    A paramedic with the Magpas air ambulance has described carrying to safety a man who was seriously injured when a tipper truck struck overhead power lines.

    Dan Read says the man in his 40s had to be be moved from the "danger area" beside the truck before he could be treated.

    Police, fire crews and the air ambulance were called to Block Fen Drove in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, just after 16:00 yesterday.

  6. Cambridge college buildings light up for e-Luminate Festival

    The lights are going on in Cambridge, where historic college buildings are becoming backdrops for the e-Luminate Festival 2016.

    The event will see some of the city's "iconic buildings" and public spaces become light art installations, organisers said.

    "e-Luminate Cambridge Festival will show just how lighting can be more than taken for granted and demonstrate innovation and inspiration simultaneously," the festival's founder Hugh Parnell said.

  7. Six suspected immigrants in lorry at Fenstanton taken to hospital

    Police say six of the 19 suspected illegal immigrants found in a lorry at Fenstanton have been taken to hospital for checks.

    All are adults or older teenagers from Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.

    Cambridgeshire Police has told us officers were called at 13:37 by a woman travelling in a lorry "saying she was with other people in the vehicle and wanted to get out".

    The lorry was stopped at Lakes Business Park at Gedney Hill by officers who found 19 suspected illegal immigrants inside, a force spokesman said.

  11. New statement on Giulio Regeni death issued by University of Cambridge

    The head of the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Cambridge has issued a statement about PhD student Giulio Regeni, who was killled while carrying out research in Cairo.

    David Runciman said: "I wish to express my profound shock and sadness at the death of our student Giulio Regeni. Our very deepest sympathy goes out to Giulio’s family and his many friends".

    More than 3,000 people have signed an online petition calling on the government to "ensure a full investigation" is carried out into the death of Cambridge student Giulio Regeni.

    The body of Mr Regeni, 28, was found showing "clear signs" of torture, according to authorities, after he disappeared in Cairo.

    Organisers of a memorial outside the Italian embassy today said they believed the government had "a duty to ensure that a credible investigation of this killing is carried out".

    People have gathered outside the Italian Embassy in London to remember Giulio Regeni, the Cambridge University student killed in Cairo.

    It was organised to coincide with the Girton College PhD student's funeral, in his home town of Fumicello, Italy.

    The body of Mr Regeni, 28, was found in Cairo last week with "clear signs" of torture, according to authorities in Egypt and Italy.  

    Friends and fellow students are also gathering outside the Italian embassy in London and in Cambridge to pay their respects to the PhD student.
