The US love of bespoke British suits

On the Hollywood silver screen heartthrobs can emerge from action-packed scenes looking as if they've just come from a cocktail party.

Such immaculate style and elegance is very likely due to a Savile Row tailor. American film stars - as well as presidents, pop stars and even Buffalo Bill himself - have long revered Britain's fine tradition of bespoke clothing and the love affair shows no sign of ending.

In fact, the US is Britain's biggest market when it comes to custom made suits.

The British Embassy in Washington has been celebrating this special sartorial relationship with a travelling exhibition focusing on the history of Savile Row.
