  1. Au revoir!

    These Welsh lads are going...

    Wales

    So are these English fellas...

    England

    And this Northern Irish bloke...

    Northern Ireland

Heard the one about the Englishmen, the Welshmen and the Irishmen? They are all going to be taking part in the same international tournament next summer. No joke... Au revoir!

  3. Can Wales win the Euros?

    Wales 2-0 Andorra

    Robbie Savage

BBC Radio 5 live at the Cardiff City Stadium

"Going into a European Championship is unknown territory for Wales, but if they get a good draw, why can’t they do well? Germany were beaten by the Republic of Ireland, Spain are not the Spain of old.

"This Wales team will go there with confidence. I believe defensively they are very good, and with Joe Allen, Aaron Ramsey, and a superstar like Gareth Bale in the side, you’ll have a chance in any game you play in."

    Wales 2-0 Andorra

    John Hartson

BBC Radio 5 live at the Cardiff City Stadium

"I think we're going in to the finals as the unknown - and that could help us. No-one gave us a chance to finish second, no-one thought we would take four points from Belgium.

"We'll just go in, we're very humble, we know what our strengths are. We will cause problems with the players - and the pace of Gareth Bale - that we have. And the fact we are pretty much an unknown will help us next summer."

  5. Player reaction

    Wales 2-0 Andorra

Wales skipper Ashley Williams hails the leadership of manager Chris Coleman as the pair celebrate reaching the Euro 2016 finals.

"He simplifies everything for us," says the Swansea defender. "Every time we step onto field we are right up for it. We always try to perform for him, we are disappointed for him when we lose."

Excellent question - arguably without a simple answer. But of the nine qualifying groups, eight comprised six teams and one only five.

So when the points are tallied up for the teams in third, all of the nations in a group with six teams have the points taken away from them that they picked up against the side that finished bottom.

    Capiche?

  7. And who has made the play-offs?

Eight teams face a nervy two-legged decider to see if they can nab

one of the four spots available through the play-offs:

Republic of Ireland, Bosnia, Ukraine, Slovenia, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Denmark.

The draw for the two-legged play-offs will be held on Sunday, with the matches taking place next month.

  8. Who has qualified?

    So to recap then:

Here are the 19 teams who have secured automatic qualification and will be joining hosts France at next summer's Euro 2016:

Czech Republic, Iceland, Turkey, Belgium, Wales, Spain, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, England, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, Romania, Austria, Russia, Italy, Croatia, Portugal, Albania.

  9. Around Europe

So that's the Euro 2016 group stage done and dusted. England, Wales and Northern Ireland are there, the Netherlands are staying at home, and the Republic of Ireland are still in limber over their summer plans. Let's have a recap...

Flashbulbs lights illuminate the Cardiff City Stadium as a horde of press photographers snap away at the jubilant Welsh players. Chris Coleman and his army of coaching staff pose for their own pictures a few yards away. Cameras are clicking from the press gang on the touchline, the elated Welsh fans in the stands and the ecstatic players who have taken their phones onto the pitch. 17. FULL-TIME

    Wales 2-0 Andorra

The full-time whistle has gone, but no-one is leaving the Cardiff City Stadium to secure an early exit from the car park or dash for the last train. The Wales supporters have been promised a party, and have been teased about some mystery post-match celebrations.

All over! The Cardiff City Stadium erupts as referee Kevin Blom blows time just before the end of the allotted two minutes. Wales win another corner - their 13th of the match - as the camera pans onto a dad and lad who are wearing French-themed fancy dress. The corner is cleared by Andorra. No-one cares. The 30,00-plus Welsh fans bust the Cardiff City Stadium's decibel meter with another ear-splitting chorus of the Welsh national anthem.

  22. The Netherlands fail to qualify

    Netherlands 2-3 Czech Republic

It is all over - we won't be seeing theNetherlands at Euro 2016.

Defeat at home to Czech Republic has sealed it, although even if they'd won Turkey's 1-0 victory over Iceland would have made it impossible for them to climb above fourth in Group A.

That win means Fatih Terim's side go to France automatically, as the best third-placed team.

A summer without all that orange...

    Netherlands fail to qualify
  23. Croatia reach Euros

Croatia defeated Malta 1-0 and Italy came from behind to defeat Norway 2-1. The upshot of this is that Croatia claimed second place in Group H and can look forward to next summer.

    Gareth Bale

    I'll stop moaning now...

Gareth Bale makes sure that Wales will finish a victorious campaign with a win (as if it was in any doubt anyway). The Real Madrid forward scuffs in a left-foot shot when Ben Davies' low cross fall at his feet inside the Andorra area.

A scrappy finish in a scrappy win. Does any one in Cardiff care? Not a jolt!

I know they have qualified and I don't want to be a misery...but Wales have been so wasteful. Two more golden chances go begging, Aaron Ramsey heading over a pair of great crosses in a matter of seconds. You'll have to take them opportunities in France next summer...

  28. Turkey score

All over for the Netherlands surely? Turkey now lead 1-0 against Iceland - thanks to a free-kick from Selcuk Inan - and will finish third, claiming a qualification place as the highest ranked third placed finisher as it stands.

  29. Post update

    Wales 1-0 Andorra

Young Wales forward Tom Lawrence has been a livewire since he came on at the break, neatly linking up with his team-mates and not being afraid of running at the Andorra defence. He fancies his chances from distance, only for Ferran Pol to gather.

    Robin van Persie (83 mins)

    Is the comeback really on?

Robin van Persie stabs one home but the Dutch need to win - and for Iceland to beat Turkey - if they are to finish in third and earn a play-off place.

And moments later van Persie is booked for a dive in the box when a penalty looked likelier...

It's Van Persie's 50th international goal but as it stands the Dutch are out whatever happens - Turkey and Iceland are drawing.

Credit to Andorra, they are not showing any signs of rolling over yet. But equally they are showing no signs of claiming their first competitive away win in 46 attempts. Max Llovera perfectly times a sliding challenge in his penalty area to dispossess Jonny Williams.

  43. Second spot for Wales?

Not much happening on the field as Wales continue to dominate. The home crowd applaud themselves after a rousing rendition of the Welsh national anthem. Spine-tingling stuff. Brought on to salvage something, anything, from a desperate situation with his team two goals down, Robin van Persie has just planted the sweetest of cushioned headers past his own goalkeeper.

With the score still 0-0 between Turkey and Iceland, even a three-goal comeback wouldn't be enough for the Netherlands to secure a play-off place and third in Group A as it stands.

The Dutch need to beat the Czech Republic and for Iceland to beat Turkey.

Lots going on in Group H - Norway are winning in Italy (Norwich's Alexander Tettey on the scoresheet) and Croatia in Malta. Both 1-0.

So as things stand, Norway will climb above Italy and claim top spot in that group with their opponents finishing second.

Wales have hogged 79% of the ball so far - that is Barcelona-esque. Another chance arrives when Aaron Ramsey clips a cross from the right channel to the back stick where Sam Vokes lurks. The lanky Burnley striker heads goalwards, but Andorra defender Ildefons Lima is underneath it to nod off the goal-line.

    Pavel Kaderabek (24 mins)

Are we heading for a summer tournament without the Dutch?

It is certainly looking that way - the Czech Republic have taken the lead in Amsterdam in a must-win match for the Dutch.

Pavel Kaderabek is played through on goal, it's a tight angle but the right-back smashes past Jeroen Zoet at his near post.

We say it's a  must-win game, but if Turkey can draw at home to Iceland, the Netherlands are out anyway. It's currently 0-0 in Konya.

  118. For the hardcore permutation fans

    The picture in Group A

    Lemurs using an abacus

The last bit of permutation business to settle takes in the wondrous scenario of which team qualifies for Euro 2016 as the best third-placed team.

As we know, the teams who finish third in the nine groups are guaranteed a spot in the play-offs.

And of those nine, the one with the most points from matches against the top five teamsin their group only will be whisked off to France directly. Results against the bottom team do not count.

As it stands, Hungary are leading the waywith 15 points.OnlyTurkey can overtake them, but they have to beat Iceland, and hope Kazakhstan climb off the bottom of Group A by beating Latvia.

This is how the above scenario would work: At the moment, Turkey have 15 points in total, but taking away their two victories over bottom team Kazakhstan leaves nine points.

Victory over Iceland would take their points total to 18, and if Latvia finished bottom instead of Kazakhstan, only two points would be taken off, because Turkey drew against them twice.

    Got that?
