    Shot of the day

"Shot of the Day" goes to... Stan Wawrinka... He's got to win something - and yes, it is a backhand. Watch the video here.

  4. Gasquet through to semi-finals

    Gasquet and Wawrinka

Why was Gasquet changing the strapping in his racquet during every break towards the end? "I'm sweating a lot but also maybe it's a bit of superstition.

And what does he think about facing Novak Djokovic: "It will be tough but I'm happy with how I've played today and I'll try to play my best again against the best player in the world."

  5. It was a great battle - Gasquet

More from Gasquet: "It was tough and I made some mistakes. He had big confidence after Paris and I had to fight. I really wanted to win. It's a great feeling as it's a big match.

"It came down to mental strength. I was aggressive and it was a great battle."

  6. Gasquet into the semi-finals

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 9-11 Gasquet

    Richard Gasquet

"I wanted to win," says Gasquet after his victory, which is not an uncommon trait in elite sportspeople. "It was tough for me," he adds while the sweat falls from his nose like a leaky tap.

  7. Gasquet into the semi-finals

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 9-11 Gasquet

    Peter Fleming

Seven-time Grand Slam doubles winner on BBC Two

"It was a well-deserved result for Gasquet. He had plenty of opportunities to fold but he was rock solid in the fifth.

"It was a rough start for Stan, he pulled himself together and looked the favourite in set five but a couple of shots were his undoing."

  8. Gasquet through to semi-finals

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 9-11 Gasquet*

Eight years after his first and only Wimbledon semi-final, Richard Gasquet is through to his second, knocking out the fourth seed and the reigning French Open champion. The Frenchman happily acquiescing to fans' autograph requests.

  9. Game, set and match Gasquet

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 9-11 Gasquet*

    Gasquet

One break point slips through the fingers. Gasquet looks to the skies in search of inspiration. Wawrinka steps forwards and can take his time to pat a volley beyond his opponent. Two match points saved. What about the third, though, Stan? Backhand long! Gasquet's knees buckle underneath him and he falls to the floor.

  10. Post update

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 9-10 Gasquet*

Wawrinka has beaten Novak Djokovic in many a five-set marathons so Gasquet should not hinder his path to the last four. Or will he? The Swiss, breathing deeply in search for calm, slips behind and presents Gasquet with three match points as a backhand drifts long. Three match points! Gasquet! Richard Gasquet!

Gasquet weathers the storm, though not many thought he would. From advantage he pounds from the baseline before overpowering Wawrinka with a forehand.

    Wawrinka

One man will falter, he will stutter close to the finishing line. The bookies would put their money on Gasquet, he of no Grand Slams and just the two major semi-finals.

The Frenchman with a tired backhand beyond the baseline. 30-30. Could this be it? Wawrinka with a stonking backhand passer. He raises the single digit. Break point.

But Gasquet conjures a boomer to the wings, Wawrinka netting the return. To deuce. We'll see you at 19:51 ish.

    A spectator

It was back in 1815 that we first started updating the scores on this match. Who could have guessed that, 200 years later, they'd be still playing the deciding set, thrilling with wordly backhands and delightful net play. The umpire requests calm, but that's like trying to contain lighting in a bottle. Gasquet shanks a return - a hold to love for Wawrinka.

  15. Post update

    *Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 8-9 Gasquet

It's getting nasty out there. Wawrinka with a body blow of a forehand, catching Gasquet on the side of the ribs. The Swiss raises his arm to apologise, then chuckles like a Bond villain. (He doesn't chuckle. Or stroke a white cat.) The Swiss still trailing, though, and fails to make up the arrears, botching backhands to present Gasquet with a simple hold.

    Wawrinka

A Mexican Wave is started on Court One. The spectators giddy on a belly full of tennis. But, please, there's only so much entertainment a person can take. Stop it now or we will self combust. Wawrinka the assassin, shooting with accuracy when under intense pressure. A serve and volley to wrap up a hold to love.

A shot of intent, a rasping ace down the middle. A sharp intake of breath from the impressed spectators. But from the sublime to the silly - a double fault, his fourth of the match. 15-15. The Frenchman upping the ante on his first serve, which helps him skip merrily ahead as if he were dancing through a meadow hand-in-hand with his lover.

  20. Post update

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 7-7 Gasquet*

Three hours have now gone by since this match started. We expected a simple, fuss-free Wawrinka victory but Gasquet has other ideas. This match will end. But who knows when. The rallies are long, the standard high. Gasquet sticking to the baseline, which doesn't bring any reward. Wawrinka continuing to rattle off aces. A hold to 15.

  21. Post update

    *Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 6-7 Gasquet

    Stan Wawrinka

We've reached the stage where it's best to start watching through the lattice of our fingers. Wawrinka wants to challenge a Gasquet forehand - which was out - but the Swiss played it and left it too late. The Swiss throws daggers with his eyes towards the umpire. In the meantime, Gasquet romps to 40-0, ending with a magical crosscourt backhand winner.

  22. Post update

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 6-6 Gasquet*

These two must be unaware that a tube strike started in London about an hour ago, although Court One's patrons don't seem too concerned about potential travel woes. The Swiss keeping the points short and sweet, rattling them off in quick succession thanks to a first serve which is as precise as his country's clocks. Hold to love.

  23. Post update

    *Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 5-6 Gasquet

    Wawrinka

There are no superlatives to describe the Wawrinka backhand when it's at its piercing best. Picture-perfect, pitch-perfect winner for a 0-30 lead. There's life in Gasquet, though, a smash followed by a irretrievable volley. 30-30. How much more of this can we take? Stan, Stan, Stan... backhand slapped into the net, then backhand into the tramlines. Wawrinka pointing to his head. The demons are playing up.

    Richard Gasquet

Of the two, Wawrinka is the man who is more accustomed to five-set thrillers in crunch stages of Grand Slams.

The fourth seed punches the air after taking a delightful opening point, he's beginning to feel at home on this stage again. Oh. Scrap that. Wawrinka botches a simple backhand volley. 30-15.

But Gasquet allows him to breathe easier, backhand drifting long. 40-15 - before Wawrinka holds to 30 thanks to a delicate volley at the tape. We're level. We're excited.

  26. Wawrinka breaks back

    *Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 4-5 Gasquet

Where's that backhand when you need it? Wawrinka remaining patient, pinning Gasquet back, bullying the Frenchman and Gasquet loops a backhand down the tramlines. Gasquet was two points from victory, but its all ifs, buts and maybes.

  27. Break point Wawrinka

    *Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 3-5 Gasquet

Gasquet hasn't progressed to a Wimbledon semi-final since 2007. No-one thought he would in 2015. They sniffed and snorted at the thought. He's not there yet, however, dragging a backhand wide for 30-30... anxiety grips players and spectators. Beautiful at the net, to and fro... and Gasquet misses with a volley! Break back point Wawrinka.

  28. Post update

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 3-5 Gasquet*

    Peter Fleming

Seven-time Grand Slam doubles winner on BBC Two

Gasquet has moved really well throughout this match.

"If Wawrinka's camp aren't having palpitations right now, they're pretty cool."

  29. Wawrinka broken

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 3-5 Gasquet*

Wawrinka talking to himself now, which is never a good sign, but super-duper first serves erase two break points. But Gasquet still has one left. The Frenchman's eyes widen when he realises he can reach a Wawrinka forehand - and the French Open champion is broken with a crisp forehand winner down the line. Blimey. Gasquet to serve for the match. Yes, you read it right.

  30. Three break points Gasquet

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 3-4 Gasquet*

Gasquet pacing behind the baseline, trying to keep calm, trying to stop the blood pumping, but all he does is make himself look like Norman Wisdom. No laughing matter for Wawrinka, though, let's the opening two points slip - and fails to control a volley at the net. Three break points Gasquet.

Novak Djokovic on BBC after reaching the semi-finals: "I didn't know how my body was going to feel but I was hoping I would play well, which I have done.

"I try not to take it for granted. The top players are expected to reach the final stages but you have to earn it.

"Both Gasquet and Wawrinka have been there. Stan loves playing on the big stage, Gasquet loves playing on grass and is one of the most talented players we have on grass."

  37. Djokovic into semi-finals

    Djokovic 6-4 6-4 6-4 Cilic

Novak Djokovic comes off court saying that he came into the match hoping rather than believing that he was going to play well after his marathon fourth-round clash with Kevin Anderson.

And his thoughts on the possibility of playing Stan Wawrinka in the next round?

"I lost to Stan at the French Open final, I lost to him on his way to winning the Australian Open final. He loves the big stage and things are coming together for him in his game."

    *Djokovic 6-4 6-4 4-3 Cilic

A sixth successive Wimbledon semi-final is calling.

And Novak Djokovic is very close to picking up the receiver.

Marin Cilic's serve has looked stiffened for the challenge of this third set, but suddenly Djokovic carves through it like the Sunday roast.

Only Roger Federer, - with seven - has made more than six successive semi-final appearances at Wimbledon.

  50. History repeating?

  56. Game and fourth set

    Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-3 4-6 Gasquet

The world's most famous Stan is a touch inconsistent in his quarter-final against Gasquet. The fourth seed was serving to stay in the match and failed to to so. We're into a fifth-set decider. Gasquet in the semi-finals? Surely not.

I'm not sure if he is feeling so magnanimous though as he plonks a groundstroke wide though to shift Cilic onto 30-30 and within sight of a break.

No worries. Djokovic wallops away a mid-court bounce to level up.

The Duke and Duchess are back in the posh seats, Catherine opting to watch proceedings through her sunglasses. Sir Jackie Stewart is here too, as is Paula Radcliffe. It's like the Oscars, but with grass instead of a red carpet.

Worrying signs as Murray falls 0-30 behind. Pospisil with oodles of space to plonk an overhead, but adrenaline gets the better of him and it's an opportunity missed. Murray holds firm, clawing himself back level before seeing off the Canadian with a rasping first serve.

Talking of powerful serves, Andy Murray and Pat Cash demonstrate what makes the perfect tennis serve for Wimbledon. Have a read of our rather nifty iWonder guide here.

    *Murray 3-2 Pospisil

Where were we? Ah, yes, Murray a break up and Pospisil set to serve. The Canadian's height, he's 6ft 4in, gives his boomers plenty of fizz. A bit of malice in Murray's play who, as we know, is one of the sport's great returners, as he directs a vicious forehand towards Pospisil's ribcage. The giant nets, but goes on to hold to 30.

    Murray 3-1 Pospisil

Murray and Pospisil have finished their gentle warm-up and are going through the final stages of their routine, Murray tying his shoelaces, always a good idea, before bouncing towards the baseline.

"Come on, boys," says the umpire to the gentlemen in the locker room. "Stop reading those BBC Sport Wimbledon updates and get back out on court." The players have been told it's time to get the heart pumping once again and will soon appear on court.

  253. The romance of the rain

    Andy Roddick

Former world number one on BBC TV

"Rain delays are tough with the stopping and starting. It's about controlling your emotions and adrenalin.

"It's not good for your body to go from zero to 60 and then back again.

"But that's part of Wimbledon. It's almost a romantic event, the part when you're in and out of the locker room."

  254. Play to resume

Yep, the green, green grass of Centre Court is breathing fresh air once more as the covers are peeling back.

In go the net posts, on comes the umpires chair, and the net cord is tightened with a twang.

And Court One is just a tad behind.

  259. Play set to restart in 20 minutes (hopefully)

    Centre Court

Stand by. A lady is making an announcement over the sound system. It's a bit like Hi-di-Hi only with a middle-class Englishwoman replacing Ruth Madoc's character. The showers should pass through quickly, she says, before informing us play should restart in 20 minutes or so.

  264. Rain stops play on Court One

    Simon 0-3 Federer

Federer has lost just 38 games so far at Wimbledon this year, the fewest of any of the men in the last eight. He has also spent the least time on court - just six hours and 16 minutes before the start of this match.

He is obviously keen to rush through this match too, breaking Simon with a delicious backhand passing shot down the line but, after a swift Fed hold to love makes it 3-0, a bit of light rain brings a halt to the match.

  265. Post update

    Murray 3-1 Pospisil

    John McEnroe

Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

    Andy Murray

"It's going to be tough for Pospisil to do damage as his strengths play to Murray's strengths.

"Murray was up against something even more difficult a few days ago, plus Pospisil played 10 sets of tennis on Monday, so it's hard to find a real argument to make people believe Pospisil can win this."

    Covers come on

Those court coverers come flying out of their blocks, shoving the umpire's chair back off court with the boss man still in the crow's nest and almost engulf Andy Murray and Vasek Pospisil in tarpaulin in their rush.

    No time to lose.

    It is raining. Play suspended.

  268. Post update

    Murray 3-1 Pospisil*

Andy Murray whisks through to 40-0 in twinkle, but, hold up, what is this a bit of Vasek Pospisil resistance?

Nope. More like Murray self-sabotage. The Scot cuffs a forehand into the top of the net under no pressure, before a rank double fault gives Pospisil a sniff at 40-30.

Snuffed out. Murray wallops down a whopping serve to shut the door.

  269. Post update

    Murray 2-1 Pospisil

    John McEnroe

Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

"Pospisil is an imposing figure at 6ft 4ins. Murray did a great job of lobbing against all 6ft 11ins of Ivan Karlovic.

"It's a shot he'll utilise today as well."

    *Murray 2-1 Pospisil

Centre like a bottle of lemonade, the fizz and pop currently contained but it's only a matter of time until all that energy explodes and froths. And it happens when the Scot drags his opponent to the tape with a dinky backhand volley, getting the better of him by volleying to the other side. Break point Murray. Break point secured! Pospisil volleys into the tape. Plenty of Whooping on Centre.

    Murray 1-1 Pospisil*

The sound of enthusiastic applause ripples around Centre as Murray leaves his chair and strides towards the service line. Fine serving from the British number one, hitting the target first time, giving his opponent not even a whiff. The forehand in super condition. A hold to love. Nice.

  274. Post update

    Simon 0-1 Federer*

Federer only faced two break-points in 58 service games in his first four matches at Wimbledon and - as discussed earlier - has not dropped his serve once, so it feels a bit odd to see him go 0-30 down in his first game against Gilles Simon.

But worry not Fed fans - he recovers from that minor blip with four big serves to win four straight points and hold.

  275. Post update

    *Murray 0-1 Pospisil

There's a hush on Centre as Pospisil prepares to launch the first missile of the day. A puff of the cheeks from the Canadian as he wins the first point. Cheeky, Vasek. He drags Murray to the tape and not even the speedy Scot can fetch that. A confident opening by the underdog, ending with a cracker of a winning forehand.

  276. Post update

    Simon v Federer

    Roger Federer

Over on Court One, Federer and Simon have already started their duel. Just the one point played, however, with the Frenchman winning the opening one. (I will not be doing point by point coverage on that match - I simply haven't enough fingers.)

  277. Post update

Murray and Pospisil are going through the final two minutes of their warm-up. Will today be Mission Impospisil for the Scot? (Yes, I did steal that pun.) The 25-year-old Canadian should not threaten the former champion's progress to the semi-final, but funny things happen in sport.

  278. Live Murray stream

Matters concerning the nation's coffers means there is currently no live coverage of Andy Murray's quarter-final on BBC One, but - BUT - you can watch the deft volleys and fierce forehands in all their glory on this page and the BBC Sport app. I hope that suffices. Murray will appear on BBC One after a shortened BBC News.

  279. Smiling Murray selfie

But the biggest cheer of the afternoon is, of course, reserved for British number on Andy Murray. The Duchess of Cambridge is the first to rise in ovation as the 2013 Wimbledon champion walks onto the hallowed turf, super-sized bags over either shoulder, opponent Vasek Pospisil by his side.

  281. Post update

    Duke and Duchess

It's like the 5th of November on Centre Court, spectators gazing upwards towards the Royal Box, anticipating the pop, fizz and whoosh of sparkle as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appear. They ooh and they aah as the Royal couple appear. The Duchess in a scarlet dress. The duke? Board shorts and flip-flops.

  282. Centre Court 'iconic'

    Andy Roddick

Former world number one on BBC TV

"It's the most iconic venue in sport. It's such a special place. When I walked out, I felt like one of the lucky ones.

"The crowd advantage is big. When you're confident it's the best thing that can happen.

"I played Murray on here in 2006 and he ripped me up. He's built for these moments."

    Federer v Simon

    Tim Henman

Former British number one on BBC TV

"Roger Federer looks incredible. He's not dropped serve here. He's so tough for anyone to play against. At 33 he's got to be a bit careful of long matches, but he's been barely got out of third gear so far."

  285. Roddick on 'horrible' Federer

    Federer v Simon

    Andy Roddick

Former world number one on BBC TV

"It's horrible being at the other end. Federer's footwork make the most sense at Wimbledon. He's so at home here.

"He wants this next Slam. People have tried to close the book on his winning slams but there's no reason he can't do it again."

Roddick and Federer met 24 times in all competitions. Federer won 21 of them.

  286. Court One order of play

    Court One Schedule

But what's happening on Court One? A sporting great is about to make an appearance as Roger Federer is about to take on Gilles Simon.

One man who knows what it's like to play the 17-time Grand Slam champion is Andy Roddick, who lost in three Wimbledon finals to the world number two. Roddick has got something to day about that...

  287. Click, click, click

Centre Court is preparing for the arrival of Andy Murray, but the photographers are focusing their lenses on David Beckham, who is seated a stone's throw away from the players' box. There's a crowd gathering around him, admittedly a strong female presence among those trying to get within touching distance of the man.

The addition of former world number one Andy Roddick to the BBC punditry team is proving a hit with viewers, if these tweets are anything to go by:

Alex Nunn: Andy Roddick commentating on Wimbledon today is going to make my year.

Glenn Allott: What a pleasure it is to have Andy Roddick back on our screens, thanks @bbctennis. He's proving to be a brilliant pundit already.

Maddie Soper: Roddick back on my TV screen again. All is right with the world.

  289. Will it rain on Murray?

    Wimbledon weather

Want your weather forecast to be more visual? BBC Weather tweeted earlier: "Grey and damp start at Wimbledon. Chance of more light showers for Andy Murray v Vasek Pospisil. Brighter later."

  290. The weatherman says...

What has BBC weatherman Simon King to tell us?

"It's been a rather grey and damp start to the day at Wimbledon with only a few glimpses of sunshine breaking through," says Simon. "There is a chance of more light passing showers during the first part of the afternoon but that risk decreases as the afternoon progresses.

"It'll brighten up with some sunny spells but with a rather brisk wind, it'll feel a little on the cool side with a maximum temperature of 18°C."

  291. What are the clouds saying?

    Wimbledon weather

Just seven days ago we were giddy, and admittedly a bit sweaty, talking about record - and experiencing - record Wimbledon temperatures. Today the weather has a different sort of day in store for us.

  292. Royalty in the Royal Box

    Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Will David Beckham be in the Royal Box? Tim Henman suggests not because the former England captain isn't wearing a tie. Perhaps there's a limit on the amount of glitz and glamour the famous booth can contain because the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, fresh from Princess Charlotte's christening, will be looking down on Centre Court's quarter-finalists from the cushioned seats.

  293. Today's special guest is...

    David Beckham

David Beckham has walked through the All England Club's gates and has just wrapped a plastic band around his wrist, the sort you receive to come and go from a nightclub as you please. He's accompanied by son Romeo. No sign of Victoria.

  294. What are the clouds saying?

Just seven days ago we were giddy, and admittedly a bit sweaty, talking about record Wimbledon temperatures. Today the weather has a different sort of day in store for us.

  295. All eyes on Djokovic

    Paul Birch

    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Novak Djokovic's practice session is complete and he fights his way through the huge throng who have packed round court five to watch him go through his paces. The woman next me breathes a sigh of relief and sits down to rest her sore back, which is hurting from her having camped in Wimbledon Park every night since the tournament began.

    Novak Djokovic

"The main thing I took from Novak's session, apart from how well and flat he was hitting the ball, was how knobbly Boris Becker's elbows are. Is this an acute case of tennis elbow?"

  296. 'Great opportunity for Murray'

    Tim Henman

Former British number one on BBC TV

"Andy has played here for 10 years now. He understands he has to do a good job and control the things you can control.

"All those outside influences and distractions - there's nothing you can do about it. He's got such a wise head on his shoulders now.

"Pospisil is a good player but it's great opportunity for Andy."

  297. 'Murray couldn't be happier'

    Andy Roddick

Former world number one on BBC TV

"Quarter-finals is where you start thinking about the trophy.

"If you're Andy Murray you couldn't be happier with the match up. He'll need to play over-the-top aggressive and he'll love that. He loves a target.

"Federer v Simon is also a good match-up. Gasquet and Wawrinka are similar players, although Wawrinka has a bit more firepower. And we'll see how Novak Djokovic does after his five-setter."

  298. New member of staff

    Andy Roddick

Former world number one on BBC TV

What an exciting day it is today because Seann William Scott has joined BBC's tennis gang. He's wearing a shirt which looks like a tablecloth you might find in an Italian restaurant, but he's talking sense.

Sorry. I've just been informed it's Andy Roddick on screen, former world number one and three-time Wimbledon finalist. Honk? I'm sorry.

  299. BBC coverage

  300. Post update

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

    Andy Murray

"All very serious stuff in Andy Murray's practice session today, and no autographs at the end of it either. "We're not stopping!" yells the security guard at the head of the scrum as he marches Murray back to the locker-room, although one bloke does get in a sneaky selfie with the 2013 champion."

  301. Nadal grunts louder - Azarenka

    Victoria Azarenka

"I'm tired of these questions," said Victoria Azarenka after her quarter-final defeat by Serena Williams. The question? Her noise levels on court.

"It's annoying as guys grunt. I was practising next to Nadal and he grunts louder than me and nobody noticed it. Look at the good stuff."

The good stuff was her entertaining three-setter against the world number one, highlights of which you can watch on our tennis page or BBC Sport app.

  302. To grunt or not to grunt

    Maria Sharapova

Talking about squawking and squealing (I know, seamless), the age-old topic of grunting is being discussed this morning after Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka burst a few eardrums during their quarter-final matches on Tuesday. Is the grunting annoying or is talking about it annoying?

  303. Murray growling...

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

    Andy Murray

"Murray is first on Centre Court today so there is not much time for chat with Amelie Mauresmo or his usual banter with Jonas Bjorkman. Mauresmo is telling him where to put his serve and feeding him balls. Murray is purring - well, more like growling actually - as he smashes them toward Bjorkman at the other end of the court."

  304. Roger that, Papa

    Paul Birch

    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

    Roger Federer

"There is shock over on Court 5 as Roger Federer hits four stray backhands. Unprecedented. Still, it's only practice. He is hitting with former world number three Ivan Ljubicic, who he greeted with "hello papa" on arrival. He's not that old, Roger."

  305. An audience with Murray

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

    Andy Murray

"Did somebody have a lie-in? Andy Murray kept his coaches Amelie Mauresmo and Jonas Bjorkman waiting before his practice session this morning, arriving just as the gates opened at Wimbledon. "It must be so annoying having to warm-up with all these people watching," says the girl next to me. I think he might be used to it by now though."

  306. Stage being set

A young gentleman has been sucking up the dirt on Centre Court's dusty baseline with a magnificent contraption, while two blokes are testing the turf's bounce by endlessly dropping a tennis ball from varying heights.

    Centre Court

What are the scenes elsewhere? Well, funnily you should ask because Roger Federer and Andy Murray are going through their morning routines.

  307. How Federer inspired global devotion

    Mike Henson

    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

    Roger Federer fans

"Whether it is the 'RF' monograms splattered on caps and shirts or the red-and-white-clad mobs of fanatics, Roger Federer's support is different," writes Mike Henson in a brilliant article on Roger Federer's devoted fans.

You can read more on a "breed of fan the sport has never seen before" on this very website. It's definitely worth five minutes of your time, and I'm not just saying that because Mike's a 6ft 4in giant.

  308. Who do you love more?

Roger Federer (left) and Andy Murray

Both are darlings of Wimbledon, both have serenely progressed to the quarter-finals and both will charm us this afternoon. But who do the fans cherish the most? Roger Federer or Andy Murray? Daddy or chips?

  309. Welcome to day nine

Hello! Welcome to the ninth day of the Wimbledon Championships. Nine days ago 128 men descended on SW19 full of hope and ambition. Progress was a pipe dream for the majority, but for eight of them, the special eight, there's still reason to believe because they've not been bashed and beaten. Yet. But there will come a day when they will have to budget for defeat.

  310. Budgeting for tennis cuts

There will be cuts. It's inevitable. It always happens at this time of year. There will be winners, but there will be losers too. Some will have reason to celebrate for they will take home a magnificent bounty. They'll be richer than they were this morning; in points and in pounds. If they continue to prosper, perhaps, just perhaps, there will even be the bonus of a sparkling golden prize at the end of the week.
