Kiveton Park Meadows Junior School in Rotherham is one of the UK's schools to be sent so-called "Rocket Seeds" which have been in space with astronaut Tim Peake for six months and then returned to Earth and sorted into packets.

The aim is to learn more about the effects of weightlessness and radiation on seeds in order to develop plant varieties that can be grown on long space missions.

Pupils at the school have planted them today and this is what's been going on:

Sheffield City Council says the shop's paint job, which is red, white and blue and fashioned into a union flag pattern, is garish and needs to be changed.

Five-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has escaped a fine but received a formal warning from World Snooker following his failure to fulfil media obligations at The Crucible yesterday.

He refused to speak to reporters after his first round win over David Gilbert.  

The sport's governing body says the warning is line with its procedure as it is O'Sullivan's first breach of contract this season. Any further breaches will result in a fine.  

Some seeds sent back to Earth by astronaut Tim Peake have been planted out today by pupils at Kiveton Park Meadows Junior School.

The British astronaut is part of a mass experiment to grow the seeds of the salad leaf rocket, comparing them with seeds that have not been in space to see if there are any differences.

The seeds have been in space for six months and were returned to Earth in March by the former commander of the International Space Station, Scott Kelly. 

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has sent out a war cry to the fans ahead of tonight's game against the MK Dons.

A man who painted the front of his Grade II listed shop with a "garish and unsympathetic" union flag is facing possible legal action for breaching planning regulations.

Sheffield City Council says the owner of Cake 'R' Us, in Devonshire Street, did not have consent for the work.

It says the shop must be repainted in a colour scheme "more in keeping with its 19th century characteristics".

Owner David Chan says he's painted the shop in an "act of national pride".

Originally the target was to knit 100 tiny hats for premature babies at the Jessop Ward in Sheffield. Just look at them. I can even see a tiny cardigan knocked up by one enthusiastic knitter:

There are still a few hours to go, and it looks as though the volunteer knitters and crocheters at BBC Radio Sheffield's open centre are going to double that target.

The knitters are swapping stories while take part in the event which is part of Sheffield University's series Life: A Festival of Health, From Head to Toe.

Sheffield golfer Danny Willett has joined the PGA Tour following his victory at the Masters earlier this month.

The golfer has been given a five-year exemption by the US tour taking him through to the end of the 2020-21 season.

A 41-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in Sheffield yesterday morning.

A white Citroen C3 Picasso was travelling towards Barnsley Road and Herries Road at about 11:00 when the pedestrian was knocked down. 

The man was taken to hospital where he currently remains in a serious but stable condition. South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses.

As we've been reporting, Britain's newly-crowned Greengrocer of the Year started in Rotherham, and has stalls at the Rotherham and Doncaster markets.
