It was short - but not so sweet.

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard was sent off after just 38 seconds during Sunday's defeat against Manchester United.

Trailing by a goal to nil, Reds manager Brendan Rodgers brought on the Anfield legend at half time to turn the game around.

The whistle for the second half blew. Thirty eight seconds later, Gerrard was dismissed for stamping on Ander Herrera.

He apologised.

Spice Girls sold out the O2

A lot of people were very excited about the Spice Girls reunion tour back in 2007.

So much so that tickets for their first London concert at the O2 Arena sold out 38 seconds after going on sale.

More than a million people in the UK registered to get their hands on a ticket.

Thankfully for their fans, the band added several more London dates to meet demand.

Prince William reached stranded teenagers

If you're stuck out at sea and need help, the quicker you're rescued, the better.

Prince William worked as a RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot in Anglesey, north Wales, until 2013.

When two teenage girls got swept out to sea, it took 38 seconds for Prince William and his crew to arrive.

The RAF said it was one of its "fastest and shortest" operations.

Jermain Defoe scored for Tottenham

A happier footy story ...

Tottenham fans might remember Jermain Defoe scoring in 38 seconds against Manchester United in September 2009.

Defoe fired in an acrobatic overhead kick to stun United at White Hart Lane.

But the happiness was short-lived. As usual, United rallied to win 3-1.

Mike Tyson won a boxing match

It took just 38 seconds for former world heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson to floor his opponent during a bout in 2000.

He was up against fellow American Lou Savarese.

The match suffered a confusing end after the referee was floored himself whilst trying to pull Tyson away from Savarese.

And lastly, one for science fans...

According to a Pearson chemistry guide we found: "One mole of nitrogen gas at 0.8 atm takes 38 seconds to diffuse through a pin hole."
