    After a fine evening with some late sunshine, it will stay dry overnight with some prolonged clear spells and winds staying light. Despite this, it will be a mild night with a minimum temperature of 10C (50F).

    A woman from Bedfordshire got more than she bargained for when she bought a micro-pig that turned into a 22 stone beast.

    'Chops' is well known in the village of Wingfield for causing a bit of mischief and is often found in Julia Marsh's garden after eating through two sofas.

    I went to visit Julia and Chops where I was advised to stand behind the fence - apparently the pig doesn't like strangers. I wasn't going to argue.

  5. Hertfordshire swimmer wins gold

    Martyn Walton from Hatfield Swimming Club has won gold at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

    Taking part in the 4 x 100m relay, Martyn Walton's second leg of 49.43 seconds helped Great Britain win gold.

  8. Members bid to buy golf club

    Members are trying to form a buy-out for a Bedfordshire golf club that ceased trading two weeks ago.

    Mentmore Golf and Country Club, in Leighton Buzzard, announced that it was to cease trading on 7 June due to financial difficulties.

    A members' bid to buy-out the club is being formed by Captains Martin Cowling and Anne Bridges, who said: "The timescales are very tight, but we have some real momentum behind us and we are determined to put a compelling case together."

    A nine-week-old baby called Scarlett spent 10 days on a life support machine before dying from brain injuries.

    The court heard the prosecution say that medical experts all agree these were caused by some form of shaking. That shaking was such that an independent witness would regard it as likely to lead to harm.

  10. Traffic problems this afternoon

    One lane is blocked and there is slow traffic on the M25 anticlockwise at J21a because of a broken down lorry and spillage on the road. Recovery is underway.

    The A413 Amersham Road remains closed northbound due to a police incident between A40 Oxford Road and B416 Kingsway.

  11. Baby died from brain injuries

    A nine-week-old baby was shaken so hard, she died from the "profound neurological" injuries she sustained, a jury has been told.

    Doctors worked to save nine-week-old Scarlett for 10 days before taking the decision to turn off the life-support machine on 24 January 2014.

    Adam Stokes, 33, began his trial today at Luton Crown Court and pleaded not guilty to the infant's manslaughter. The case continues.

  12. Henry Higgins death: 'Horrific injuries'

    Luton man Henry Huggins has died after being attacked in 2013 - he'd remained in a coma ever since.

    Judge Farrell QC told Stuart Docherty, 40 (pictured right), who stamped on Mr Huggins' head outside his home: "You have a direct responsibility for the horrific injuries Mr Huggins has sustained."

    Docherty, 40, was jailed at Luton Crown Court in November for 12 years after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He could now face further prosecution following Mr Huggins' death.

  13. Henry Huggins death: 'Blow to the system'

    A Luton family have paid tribute to a "funny and loving" father who has died almost two years after being savagely attacked in Farley Hill.

    Henry Huggins, known to many as Chin, was left in a coma after the serious assault in August 2013 - during which Luton man Stuart Docherty stamped on his head.

  14. MK Dons have 'bottom-three budget'

    MK Dons boss Karl Robinson says he feels he can get the players he needs despite having one of the lowest budgets in the Championship in 2015-16.

    "We have a wage cap and have always had one. I can well assure you our budget will be in the bottom three next year," Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio.

    He added: "The chairman's trying to build a sustainable club and the way he's doing it has been sensational." The Dons were promoted to the second tier for the first time last season.

  15. Care home put into special measures

    A Hertfordshire care home has been assessed as inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and put into special measures.

    Pinelodge Care Home in Stevenage, which looks after up to 140 older people, was found to be failing in all the criteria inspected.

    People living at the home and their relatives told the CQC they "did not always get their needs met".

  16. Hope for 'peaceful' protest in Luton

    Police have placed restrictions on a protest planned for Luton on Saturday afternoon by the political group Britain First.

    Ch Supt David Boyle, from Bedfordshire Police, said: "We respect the right for peaceful protest however, we must also be mindful of the impact on our communities. As a result we have decided to place restrictions on the procession to ensure we recognise and meet the needs of all parties affected.

    "There will be a police presence in the town on the day and we hope the event is peaceful." The far right group was set up in 2011 by former members of the British National Party.

  17. Conditions placed on Britain First protest

    We've just heard that conditions have been placed on a protest planned by the far-right group Britain First in Luton at the weekend "to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum".

    Bedfordshire Police has served notice on organisers giving them strict guidelines on where the protest can take place and restricting any further procession or movement in the town on Saturday.

    The force has also sought an application for an injunction under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Disorder Act 2014 which will be heard at the High Court on Friday.

  21. 'Striking' new home in Dunstable

    We've been in our new BBC Three Counties building in Dunstable for just a week now, after our move from Luton.

    Presenter Nick Coffer, whose programme was the first to broadcast from Dunstable last Tuesday, has written a blog documenting the "new era".

    "Most striking of all, the building has huge floor to ceiling windows which allows cascades of daylight to flood the newsroom," Nick writes. "This is one of the biggest differences between the old and new buildings."

    I caught up with MK Dons manager Karl Robinson last night on Monday Night Sport. There were some interesting revelations from the boss...

    Their budget will be in the bottom three of the Championship, they have a wage cap and they won't go over it and he said surviving in the Championship would be seen as a good season.

    "People are liking us to Wolves or Bournemouth (who did well in the Championship last season after promotion from League One) but we are not in the same hemisphere as them," he said.

  23. Body found in Buckinghamshire lay-by

    The body of a woman was found in Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire earlier.

    Police were called just after 08:30 after a passing motorist alerted them to a body in a lay-by on the A413 Amersham Road.

    The death is being treated as unexplained and officers are investigating.

  24. An MBE and Mr Beckham for St Albans business owner

    The founder of a performing arts company in St Albans, who was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List last week, got in some practice at Buckingham Palace last night when she received another award from the Queen and met David Beckham to boot.

    Zoe Jackson, who founded Living the Dream at the age of 16, was one of the first recipients of the Queen's Young Leaders Awards which celebrate the achievements of 60 young people from across the Commonwealth.

    Zoe will be back at Buckingham Palace in the autumn to receive her MBE.

    A man from Luton has died after remaining in a coma for two years following an attack where a man stamped on his head outside his home after a row about a dog.

    Stuart Docherty was jailed in November for 12 years and given a five-year extended licence period. He had pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Henry Huggins (pictured).

    At a trial last month, a second man James Early was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

  27. M1 services need more security

    A man from Toddington in Bedfordshire has called for more security at the nearby M1 services.

    Last week, 60-year-old Chris Gadsden, who lives on farm land neighbouring the service station, says he had to round up more than 30 men and women who had climbed out of the back of lorries.

    He wants Moto hospitality, who have declined to comment, to step up security: "I'd like someone to tell the Moto station to get security fences up and CCTV cameras over there to try and stop them coming onto other people's premises."

  28. Henry Huggins: Man dies after two year coma

    A Luton man has died after being attacked almost two years ago. Henry Huggins never regained consciousness following the attack in August 2013 and remained in a deep coma.

    His attacker Stuart Docherty, 40 (pictured), who was jailed for what the judge described as "an appalling act of violence", could now face a murder charge.

    Bedfordshire Police say they are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination and will refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service should any further action be required.

  30. Childhood sweethearts celebrate 70 years of marriage

  31. MK Dons goalkeeper to sign new contract

    MK Dons boss Karl Robinson says goalkeeper Dave Martin will sign a new contract shortly, but he doesn't think striker Will Grigg will be returning next season.

    Robinson, who's hoping to bring in an extra six or seven players, says he's certain Martin will commit: "I'm very confident we can get that done, he had a tremendous season last season."

  34. Woman arrested after Hatfield drugs raid

    A 37-year-old woman from Hatfield has been arrested after a drugs warrant was executed in the town.

    Around 50 wraps of white powder, suspected to be cocaine, and cash were seized at the address at Broomfield Court in The Common yesterday, police say.

    The woman remains in police custody on on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

  36. Flames fuel passion at Clophill wedding reception

    Married life for Abi and Jonny Pearce hotted up from the outset when their wedding reception in Clophill had to be rescued from a generator fire.

    The couple returned from their honeymoon over the weekend and have released pictures of their unusual 13 June reception.

    Ampthill on-call firefighters attended the scene after a power generator caused several bales of hay and some jerry cans of fuel to catch fire, with the blaze threatening to spread to the Teepees where the wedding reception was taking place.

  37. Milton Keynes set for new £7.2m school

    Milton Keynes will see a £7.2m state-of-the-art primary school opened in the new city in September next year.

    "This is a very ambitious project which will make a real difference to young people's education in the Oakgrove area," Norman Miles, cabinet member responsible for schools, said. "[It] demonstrates how effectively we can work in partnership with schools."

    Oakgrove School, rated "outstanding" by Ofsted, will become the area's first school to welcome nursery and primary children up to Year 6 and will cater for 669 children.

  38. Housemate stabbing was 'callous attack'

    The officer who investigated the murder of John-Mark Duffy, 39, who was stabbed to death by his housemate Ian Brunner has called it a "callous attack".

    Brunner, 47, of Byron Crescent, Bedford was jailed for life yesterday after stabbing Mr Duffy in the chest following a disagreement in January.

    Det Insp Jerry Waite said he was pleased justice had been "done swiftly without a need for a protracted trial" after Brunner pleaded guilty.

  39. Mosque meeting aims to counter Britain First fears

    Luton Council of Mosques is holding an emergency public meeting this evening to discuss Saturday's march in the town by the far-right group Britain First (pictured).
