    Figures obtained by the BBC show lengthening delays in the time taken for cases to be dealt with by magistrates. Funding cuts have contributed to what some are calling a ‘postcode lottery’ in the administration of justice.

    We’ll be reporting live from a magistrates’ court in Northamptonshire, letting you know how things are progressing.

    The winning entry came from nine-year-old Ronnie Webb, who designed a scooter repair stall selling wheels, clamps and grips (left).

    Runner up Joelle Chow, aged eight, drew herself as owner of a sweet stall, with a wide variety of colourful and tasty treats on offer (right).

  3. Rainsbrook young offenders centre to be taken over

    Up until now G4S has run the the Rainsbrook centre near Daventry, which earlier this year received a damning inspection report, which branded it 'inadequate'.

    The firm says the situation has improved, but the government's youth training board decided one operator cannot run all of England's young offenders centre.

    G4S will now run all other centres but not Rainsbrook. The contract is set to be handed to the consortium MTC novo.

  4. Police warning over scams in Northamptonshire

    Northamptonshire Police say an elderly lady was called by someone claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice who asked for bank details and became rude and aggressive when challenged.

    The force says legitimate organisations will not make speculative phone calls requesting personal or bank details.

  6. Hinton-in-the-Hedges light aircraft crash: One person suffered serious injurues

    The East Midlands Ambulance Service has told us it was called to Hinton-in-the-Hedges airfield just after 12:05 by Air Traffic Control, where they provided care to a patient with serious injuries along with the South Central Ambulance Service.

    The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has said it is deploying a team to investigate a "light aircraft crash".

    The Enfield 8000 can do 0-60mph in under four seconds and this weekend its owner - motoring journalist Jonny Smith - is hoping to make a European record for the fastest road-worthy electric car in history. He's got a time of 11.5 seconds to beat over a 1/4 mile dash.  

  8. Wellingborough sex offender jailed for 12 years

    Anthony Francois, 41, from Wellingborough, who carried out sex offences in 2013, while on the sex offenders register, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison at Northampton Crown Court today.

    His sentence will be followed by four years on extended license – deemed necessary for protecting the public - and he must remain on the sex offenders register for life.

  10. Street-legal electric car aims for speed record

    Some of the fastest and loudest machines in motorsport are in the region this weekend as the drag racing European finals return to Santa Pod on the Northamptonshire border.

    The quickest cars can reach 300mph. But without doubt the quietest car on the strip will be a 1974 Enfield 8000 (pictured).

    The cult car is fully electric and it's driver - motoring journalist and TV presenter Jonny Smith - is aiming to break a European speed record for street-legal electric cars. It's currently set at 11.5 seconds for a 1/4 mile dash.

  11. Brackley light aircraft crashes at airfield

    A light aircraft has crashed at a Northamptonshire airfield, the fire service said.

    Emergency services attended after reports were received that a plane had come down at Steane, Brackley, a police spokesman said.

    Calls reporting the plane crashing at the private Hinton-in-the-Hedges airfield were received just after 12:00. Two fire engines from Northamptonshire and one from Oxfordshire have attended.

  12. Northampton Half Marathon this Sunday

    There will be various rolling road closures on Sunday as the Northampton Half Marathon makes it's way through the town.

    The event starts at 09:30 at the Guildhall and takes in Beckets Park, Hardingstone and Great Houghton.

  14. British Indy Car driver who died in crash to have Northamptonshire funeral

    British driver Justin Wilson, who died during the Pocono IndyCar 500 race, is to have his funeral next week in Paulersbury.

    A statement on the late driver's website reads: "The funeral of Justin Wilson will take place on Thursday, 10 September at 11.45 at St James the Great Church, Paulersbury, and afterwards in Hall 5, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit."

    More than half of callers to the NHS 111 number in Northamptonshire are being told to contact their GP. The organisation that runs the service says people are getting the correct advice, but some doctors' groups are not convinced.

  21. Man assaulted by group acting suspiciously

    A man was attacked in Weggs Farm Road, Duston on Tuesday after disturbing four men who were acting suspiciously.

    The victim, 39, challenged the men, after seeing them at a neighbouring property. As he returned to his own house he was struck on the head from behind, leaving him with a head wound. The four offenders are believed to have made off in a car.

  23. Ambulance service says 111 number is 'very successful'

    The East Midlands Ambulance Service, which previously said ambulances were sometimes summoned unnecessarily, have now said the 111 service is working well with just over 8% of calls ending with an ambulance being called.

    I've spoken to Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue who told me there was a light aircraft crash at Hinton-in-the-Hedges, but when they arrived the incident had already been dealt with by the airfield staff and one person had been taken to hospital in an ambulance.

    The Weston and Lois Weedon Horticultural Society annual show was started by CH Middlton, the gardener used by the government and the BBC to front the Dig for Victory campaign that encouraged people to grown their own food during WW2. It is in it's 75th year and tomorrow will be opened by food writer William Sitwell.

  28. Pressure group says council should look at selling art not on display

    Research from the Taxpayers' Alliance shows Corby Borough Council has 350 pieces of artwork, none of which are on displa, while Northampton Borough Council has under 7% of it's art on display.

    The group says councils should think about selling off art work not on display, as Northampton Borough Council did with the Egyptian statue Sekhemka.

    Research from the Taxpayers' Alliance shows Kettering Borough Council owns more than 900 pieces of art, worth £5.2m.

    Northampton Borough Council has less than 7% of its 2,700 pieces of art on show. The authority, still fielding questions about it's decision to sell off Egyptian statue Sekhemka, has by far the biggest art collection of any Northamptonshire council, but says it needs a larger museum to show it off.

    Tomorrow, the Corby Cube is holding an International Day to celebrate the town's diversity and it'll feature a performance by the Corby International Orchestra - created especially for the day.

  39. More than half of Northamptonshire's 111 callers told to go to GP

    The 111 non-emergency service received almost 15,000 calls from Northamptonshire in June with more than half of callers told to contact their GP. Call centre operators use a computerised questionnaire to decide what should happen - but can pass callers on to nurse advisers.

    Some doctors groups have said an overcautious approach leads to callers unnecessarily being told to see a GP, but Derbyshire Health United - which runs 111 here - say workers intercept many people who may otherwise have unnecessarily gone to a GP or A&E.

  41. None of Corby's artwork on public display

    None of the 350 pieces of public artwork owned by Corby Borough Council are on public display, according to research by the Taxpayers' Alliance.

    The council said it's very lucky to have been donated or given a wide range of art pieces, but added that the majority are not by well know artists and wouldn't be worth much financially.

    The authority is currently looking to put the pieces on show.
