Steven Spielberg has said in an interview that he doesn't think any actor could replace Harrison Ford as heroic archaeologist Indiana Jones

It follows rumours that Guardian of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt is a frontrunner to take over the role from Ford in the future.

Speaking to Screen International, though, Spielberg said: “I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy.

"It’s certainly not my intention to have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. 

"There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones, and that’s Harrison Ford.

Spielberg, who has directed Ford in four Indiana Jones films, added that he was keen to return to the franchise, despite the negative reviews that the fourth, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, received in 2008.

"I’ve got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done."

A new £1m festival of digital arts has been announced for York, a year after York won the title of Unesco City of Media Arts.

Organisers say the biennial festival, named the Mediale, will involve "major light displays, interactive pavilions and exhibits that use the backdrop of York as a canvas for cutting edge technological displays."

The first Mediale will take place in 2017 or 2018, will last 20 days and will include an award ceremony to recognise the world’s top digital artists.

The event has the support of arts minister Ed Vaizey, who said:

Even celebrities are not immune to car troubles. Take hip-hop legends Public Enemy, who might have been stranded miles from their gig in Sheffield were it not for the kindness of fan Kevin Wells.

Even further back in time, Thunderbirds' Lady Penelope had to rely on those nice chaps at the Automobile Association.

Anthony Valentine, the English actor known for his roles as Toby Meres in Callan (1967-1972) and Major Mohn in Colditz (1974), has died at the age of 76.

According to his agent, Derek Webster, the stage and small screen regular was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2012.

Valentine was also known for playing the titular gentleman thief in TV series Raffles (1975-1977), the show on which he met his future wife Susan Skipper.

More recently (2009-2010), he appeared in Coronation Street as George Wilson, Peter Barlow's former father-in-law.

It's all change in the regions, with the news that Sheffield Theatres' Daniel Evans is to take over from Jonathan Church as Chichester Festival Theatre's artistic director.

Evans will step down from his current post in June 2016 to make the 178-mile trip from Yorkshire to West Sussex.

He'll inherit a theatre complex in rude health that's been bouyed of late by the West End success of its 2014 revival of Gypsy.

Gypsy has now ended its run at the Savoy theatre, making room for Guys and Dolls (pictured) - another production that originated at Chichester - to begin previews next week.

The popularity of cat videos is being debated at This Way Up, a conference in Manchester at which film exhibitors are being invited to re-think traditional exhibition methods.

Some cinema chains think the growing trend of this genre could convert to profits at the box office.

Australian singer Sia has teamed up again with her teenage dancer muse Maddie Ziegler on Ellen DeGeneres's chat show.

Ziegler performed in a trio of videos by the singer, including the controversial Elastic Heart, which also featured Shia LaBeouf.

The pair performed Sia's new single Alive, with the singer hidden from view behind a black dress while Ziegler threw herself around the stage

Ziegler's last performance with Sia was alongside Kristen Wiig at the Grammys in February.

Peter Andre is apparently making a cameo in the forthcoming David Brent movie.

This picture certainly suggests it's an amicable relationship.

The plot for Life on the Road, out next August, involves The Office's Brent trying to relaunch his career as a pop star.

Scotland's oldest working theatre, the Theatre Royal in Dumfries, is staging its first performance following a major renovation.

The theatre, which has had a £2m overhaul after being shut for two years, is re-opening this week with Beauty and the Beast, a Christmas pantomime.

The original theatre on the Shakespeare Street site was built in 1792 and included poet Robert Burns among its patrons.

His video for Hotline Bling has been watched more than 150 million times online. Now Drake has something else to celebrate.

The Canadian rapper is officially the most streamed artist of the year globally, with more than 1.8 billion streams in 2015.

Ed Sheeran, who was the top streaming artist in 2014, was second behind Drake. 

But the Brit is still out in front of Spotify's all-time list with more than 3 billion streams.

Rihanna was the year's most streamed female performer with 1 billion streams.

The new Calendar Girls stage musical, written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, got a rapturous reception on its official opening night in Leeds on Tuesday.

Leeds is home turf for the show - the story is set in Yorkshire, and Yorkshire is even the title of its opening number.

Elsewhere, some songs - like Dare and Sunflower - carry an emotional punch as well as having the necessary hum-a-long-ability. Others, though, are highly forgettable.

There's little doubt the show will move to the West End; the big question is whether it will work as well when not on home turf. And if it went on to Broadway, would audiences find its Yorkshireness quaint or parochial?

In any case, the appeal of inspiring women who defy the pressures of age and appearance to shed their inhibitions as well as their clothes should prove universal.

The lyrics to What Age Expects sum up the show's message: "Don't ever do what age expects of you."

National critics were not invited last night, but the Yorkshire Post's Nick Ahad has written a review.

A London stage production that lost its leading lady two weeks before its opening night opened as scheduled on Tuesday, with another actress in the title role.

Noma Dumezweni, who stepped in after Sex in the City star Kim Cattrall pulled out on doctors' orders, had to refer to script pages at various points during last night's performance of Linda at the Royal Court and made a number of slips that included getting another character's name wrong.

This, however, did not prevent her receiving a rousing reception at the curtain call from an audience who had been informed in advance that the actress was not yet "off book".

Our arts editor Will Gompertz was at the Court on Tuesday and found it a "strange evening" in which Dumezweni (pictured) gave "an unusual masterclass in acting" in her role as a beauty company executive facing both professional and personal crises.

Early reviews of the play have been complimentary about Dumezweni, and also of the impressive revolving set that Es Devlin has designed for Michael Longhurst's production.

Writing in the Evening Standard, Henry Hitchings said Cattrall's Olivier-winning replacement would "only get better" in what he described as a "flawed yet important play".

Audience members with tickets to Penelope Skinner's drama are not entitled to claim refunds, though we've been told that some have requested and received credit notes they can use to purchase tickets for future Royal Court productions.

US network Fox is developing a TV series based on Sylvester Stallone's Vietnam veteran character John Rambo.

Rambo: New Blood - a reference to 1982's First Blood, the first film in the franchise - will "explore the complex relationship" between John Rambo and his son JR, a former Navy Seal.

The script has been written by Die Hard writer Jeb Stuart, while Stallone is apparently on board as an executive producer.
