A Cumbrian Labour peer's second attempt to get the Government to accept child refugees from European camps has been voted through in the House of Lords.

The main change in the second amendment tabled by Lord Dubs from one defeated in the House of Commons earlier this week is that it will let ministers choose how many unaccompanied minors to take.

Labour life peer Alf Dubs lives in Cockermouth and was brought to the UK as a child to escape the Nazi regime in Czechoslovakia.

Speaking to the BBC's The World Tonight, Lord Dubs explained why he thought ministers were so reluctant to go along with his proposals:

  18. Second child refugees amendment by Cumbrian peer passes in Lords

A Cumbrian Labour peer's second amendment to force the Government to take in child refugees from camps in Europe has been voted through by the House of Lords.

Lord Dubs lives in Cockermouth and was brought to the UK as a child to escape the Nazi regime on the Kindertransport organised by the late Sir Nicholas Winton.
