  2. Final goodbye to Jimmy Hill

    A ceremony will be held at the Ricoh Arena at 13:00 tomorrow to lay the ashes of Sky Blues legend Jimmy Hill.

    They'll be scattered in a new memorial garden ahead of the club's match against Sheffield United.

    A new stone centrepiece honouring the man who took the club into the top flight of English football will also be unveiled.

  3. Coventry anaethetist selected for Invictus Games

    A Coventry-based doctor is preparing to represent the UK in the Invictus Games, which takes place in Florida in ten days time.

    Anaesthetist and former Army Major Jen Warren will travel with the team next week after being selected for athletics, swimming and road cycling. 

    Jen suffered severe nerve injuries in 2008 after a skiing accident, affecting her ability to use her left leg.

    She predominantly uses a wheelchair when working in the anaesthetic rooms and theatres at University Hospital.    

  4. Two arrested after cannabis found at Rugby addresses

    Around 70 cannabis plants have been seized from a house in Thompson Close in Rugby, police say.

    A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug and conspiracy to supply.

    A 23-year old was also held, on suspicion of conspiracy to supply, at an address in Buchanan Road, where a search uncovered cannabis and £4,000 in cash.  

    Both men have been bailed until the end of May.

  6. Stolen dog reunited with owner after more than a year

    Diachi, an Akita stolen from her home in Sheffield more than a year ago, has been reunited with her owner after being found wandering the streets of Coventry.

    Council dog wardens impounded the dog in kennels when it was picked up as a stray in Willenhall two weeks ago and because it was microchipped, the wardens were able to track down her owner Robert Marsden.

  7. Rugby free school secures funding

    Plans for the new free secondary school in Rugby have cleared the last government hurdle.

    The Department for Education has agreed a funding arrangement which means the school can open in September.

    Its first intake will see 180 pupils taking classes on the site of the Rokeby Primary School in Anderson Avenue.

  8. Tributes paid to 'wonderful son and doting father'

    The family of a motocyclist who died in a collision on Stratford Road in Wootton Wawen has paid tribute to their "loving and wonderful son and doting father".

    Robert Loach, 27, from Redditch, died on Monday, leaving a partner and two children aged one and three.

    His partner Lian said: "He was my rock and my soulmate, the love of my life and I love him more than I could possibly say."

  10. Sky Blues look for a home win to end season

    The Sky Blues bring down the curtain on their home campaign when they host Sheffield United at the Ricoh Arena tomorrow. 

    The City are aiming to make it three home wins in a row for the first time in the league since November. 

    Goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook says their supporters deserve a strong end to the season.

  11. Proposals to develop Coventry's Priory centre

    The first proposals have been put forward to re-open the Priory Visitor Centre in Coventry which closed when a council grant was withdrawn.

    Coventry City Council says it will soon be asking parties who are interested in taking over the site to come forward.

    Local businesswoman Carole Donnelly, who's putting forward her plans, says given better promotion of the venue and more facilities, it could have a future.

  13. Members of Coventry drugs ring jailed

    Members of a Coventry drugs ring have been jailed for their part in an operation intent on supplying cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis with a street value of £1.7m, police say.

    - Robert Lines, 51, of Heather Road, Binley Woods was sentenced to 15 years, having admitted conspiracy to supply drugs. Police branded him a "major player".

    - Joseph Squire, 36, of Nuffield Road, Court House Green, was sentenced to five years, having admitted conspiracy to supply drugs. At his home, officers found blocks of cocaine, with a purity as high as 87 per cent, worth £320,000.

    - Lee Walters, 25, of Dartmouth Road, Coventry, was sentenced to 11 years, having been found guilty of conspiracy to supply drugs.

    - The Dane Road home of Sara Bromell, 50, was used as a pick-up point for the drugs. She was sentenced to three years after admitting her role in the conspiracy.

    Their convictions follow the sentencing of three others in the drugs network last year.

  14. 'No excuse' for condition of seriously ill rabbit

    A partially paralysed rabbit had to be put to sleep after being dumped in a picnic basket outside an RSPCA branch in Coventry.

    Staff at the branch in Coundon Wedge Drive say they saw a man in a silver car leave the rabbit on their doorstep.

    An emergency vet was called, but the rabbit was so poorly, the only option was to put it to sleep.

  15. Former Coventry City Council deputy leader died of natural causes

    A coroner has ruled the former deputy leader of Coventry City Council died of natural causes.

    An inquest into his death heard Philip Townshend was found collapsed in his pyjamas at home with painkillers and anti-depressants in his system. The cause of death was deemed to be ischaemic heart disease.

    After his body was discovered, ‎police noted that Mr Townshend had laid out his driving licence, passport, cheque books, wallet and his will in an envelope neatly at his home, but witnesses said this was typical of his behaviour and "OCD" ways.

    Mr Townshend's body was found last year after colleagues became concerned when he did not reply to text messages.

  17. Lorry stuck for 17 hours finally moves

    Police have just re-opened Torrington Avenue which was blocked for 17 hours by a stuck lorry.

    Repairs were made to the HGV's compressor allowing it to be moved - and finally make its delayed delivery.

  18. How do you solve a problem like a stuck lorry?

    We've been telling you about the broken-down lorry that's been stuck across the width of the road at a busy industrial estate in Coventry, blocking traffic since last night.

    The good news is the vehicle, from Athens, has now been removed - we'll have more on that shortly. But how did the problem get solved when the driver couldn't contact his Greek employer to get funding for repairs? It's a public holiday over there.

    The answer is he got by with a little help from new friends. Graham Brown from nearby company Sandvik Limited explains the predicament in which the driver found himself.
