  3. Elderly woman dies after being hit by car in Hitchin

    A woman in her 80s has died after being hit by a car whilst crossing the road in Hitchin last week.

    The collision happened on Queen Street, outside Asda, on 29 December about 12:45 and involved a black Hyundai i10.

    Police said the reasons for the collision were unknown.

  6. Off-road bikers kill cat in Luton

    A cat has been killed by illegal off-road bikers at Round Green in Luton. People who live nearby are planning to set up an action group to tackle the ongoing problem.

    Supt Sharn Basra, from Bedfordshire Police, told BBC Three Counties they need the public's help to catch those flouting the law: "We want to work with the community to identify those responsible, to seize their vehicles if necessary and prosecute them.

    "More importantly it's about safety and protection... not just about the public in general but those who are using the bikes. I'm sure they're not fully-sighted on the dangers they cause to themselves," he said.

  7. Muntjac deer rescued in Bourne End

    Firefighters in Buckinghamshire have assisted the RSPCA in rescuing a muntjac deer caught in railings.

    The deer was released from the metal railings on New Road in Bourne End at 07:35 and remains in the care of a vet.

  9. Wolverton murder: Man pleads not guilty

    A 26-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Ashley Gillard from Wolverton in Milton Keynes. 

    The 31-year-old was found by firefighters in his third floor flat last June after a fire had broken out.

    Thomas White, from Bibury Close in Wellingborough, appeared at Luton Crown Court via video link from prison. He pleaded not guilty to 11 charges including murder, arson, theft, fraud and possession of class B drugs. He will remain in custody until his trial in April.  

  10. Man attacked in Kempston dies in hospital

    A man who was attacked in Kempston has died in hospital. Police are trying to determine if his death was linked to the injuries he received.

    The incident took place on 6 December between 19:00 and 20:00 in Whitbread Avenue. Four men, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, have been released on bail.

    The victim, who was being treated for serious injuries died on Christmas Day. Police say they don't know if weapons were used and have asked the public to come forward if they saw anything discarded in the area that may have been used.

  11. Football: West Ham recall Poyet from MK Dons

    Midfielder Diego Poyet has had his season-long loan with MK Dons cut short by parent club West Ham United.

    The 20-year-old Uruguay Under-20 international had made 20 appearances for Karl Robinson's Championship side since joining in August.

    But he only started two games in December and has now returned to the Premier League Hammers.

  13. Hertfordshire man dies in Wales crash

    A 42-year-old man from Hertfordshire has died after the vehicle he was in crashed in south Wales. 

    Mark Crabtree was pronounced dead at the scene on the A449 yesterday morning. No other vehicles were involved.

  14. Hatters ground to open for weekly social club

    Luton Town football ground is to open every Wednesday morning for an over-50s social club in a bid to combat loneliness.

    Kenilworth Road will welcome visitors for two hours each week to engage with lonely and more vulnerable members of the community.

    “We hope by opening up our stadium we can provide somewhere friendly for people to meet and socialise and make new friends,” Daniel Douglas, from the Hatters Community Trust, told the club's website.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in Stevenage in the early hours of New Year's Eve.

    Cheviot Way

    Hertfordshire Police say they were called to Cheviot Way at 01:20 on 31 December following reports a 29-year-old man had been taken ill. He was taken to hospital and died shortly afterwards.

    A 40-year-old man from Brent Cross - who was known to the victim - has been arrested and released on bail. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and investigations into the circumstances are on-going, police said.

  18. Milton Keynes animation director nominated for BAFTA

    An animation director from Milton Keynes has been nominated for a BAFTA.

    Tim Searle, from Old Stratford, has been nominated in the animation category for his work on Mr Bean the Animated Series.

    Mr Searle is now the creative director of Animation and Children's at Tiger Aspect. Previously he ran Triffic Films, which produced graphics for popular TV series like Have I Got News For You.  

  19. Singing frog missing from Milton Keynes park

    A statue of a singing frog is missing from a park in Milton Keynes.

    The four-piece frog band, now reduced to a trio, resides in Howe Park Wood near Tattenhoe in Milton Keynes.

    The Parks Trust, who manage the area, say they have reported the missing statue to police and "are awaiting further comments".
