Should MPs be able to job-share?

A Green Party candidate says she wants the "electorate to have the right to vote for job-sharing MPs".

Sarah Cope, (pictured on the right), tried to stand in May's general election for Basingstoke with Clare Phipps but their application was rejected by the returning officer.

They have since been refused permission to fight a High Court test case.

"We want to do it because standing for election is something that's barred to a lot of people," said Cope. "We're asking for the electorate to have the right to vote for job-sharing MPs. If they don't like the idea they won't vote for them. "

The Telegraph's Executive Politics Editor James Kirkup said he couldn't "see how it would work" adding "how would they sack you if they thought you weren't going to do a good job?"
