  1. So long...

It's emotional, but sadly that's all we've got time for today -  scroll down for news on Black Sabbath's final tour, a new Stone Roses rumour, music from Metronomy and news on everyone from Radiohead to Justin Bieber.

We'll be back bright and early with loads of tunes from New Music Friday and who knows what other music news treasures await?!

  2. Black Sabbath confirm final tour dates

    Ozzy Osbourne

Black Sabbath have revealed the dates for their final tour.

They were revealed on flyers (old school, we like it) handed out at Download, the festival the band are headlining this Saturday.

The seven dates will likely make up the final leg of Black Sabbath's final tour - The End - which began in January.

The last show's in Birmingham - which we imagine Guitarist Tony Iommi is happy about after he said this earlier this year:

Quote Message: When we’re home where we started, we always find it a bit nerve-wracking. But Birmingham means such a lot to us. It would be nice to think it could finish where it all started.
  3. The Script launch Literacy Supergroup to get kids reading

    The Script's Danny O'Donoghue

Danny O'Donoghue from The Script is trying to use music to get teenagers reading by teaming up with bandmate Mark Sheehan and YA author and music producer Jamie Scallion to form a 'Literacy Supergroup'.

Figures from the National Literacy Trust show just 40% of 14-16 year olds enjoy reading, so they've launched a competition to find new songwriters called Literacy for Lyrics.

Scallion - who's worked with Florence and the Machine and Wolf Alice as well as supporting The Script on tours with his own band - writes The Rock ‘n’ Roll Diaries series.

The trio have co-written songs to accompany each book which can be streamed online and are asking 14-16 year olds to supply lyrics for the fourth and final volume, Owning It, due later this year.

You can listen to the beginnings of the song and find out more on their website

Danny, who was a former coach on The Voice, said:

Quote Message: I’ve seen from personal experience how many brilliant aspiring vocalists are out there, but without amazing new songs, what will they sing? If teenagers don’t enjoy reading and think it’s uncool then they will struggle to develop the basic literacy skills essential to crafting great lyrics. I think the music business can help.
  4. David Bowie ballet to open next week

    David Bowie

A new ballet celebrating the music of David Bowie is opening in Detroit next week.

The musician died of cancer in January at the age of 69.

Complexion Contemporary Ballet’s 35-minute piece Star Dust, which doesn’t have the official approval of Bowie’s estate, will open at Detroit Music Hall Center on 17 June.

The company's 15 dancers will perform songs including Modern Love, Changes, Life On Mars, Space Oddity and Lazarus.

    Writer Dwight Rhoden told Billboard:

Quote Message: This piece will touch on Bowie’s catalogue and all the different ways that he expressed himself, musically and theatrically. He was certainly a musician, but he was so much more.
  5. Josh Homme teases Queens of the Stone Age comeback

    Josh Homme

Queens Of The Stone Age are getting ready to return to the studio, according to lead singer Josh Homme.

He was giving an interview to the podcast Let There Be Talk when he was asked about a possible QOTSA return.

He said: "Yeah, a Queens return is up next on my schedule. Same line-up and we’re locked in. We’re having a meeting tomorrow about what we’re going to do."

By "same line-up", he most likely means the band will feature the same members that played on their most recent album, 2013's Like Clockwork.

We're about to action a spontaneous office mosh pit in celebration, who's with us?

  6. Fleur East is already recording new music

    Fleur East

The X Factor has a rather mixed history, to put it mildly, when it comes to producing great popstars.

Sure, there's been One Direction, Little Mix and Olly Murs - but there's also been a number of winners and runners-up who haven't quite set the world on fire with their music.

Fortunately, Fleur East is one alumnus whose music we can definitely get on board with. Her debut single Sax has been a huge hit worldwide and her album was a cut above your usual talent show fodder.

The good news is Fleur is already back in the studio, recording music for her second album.

She told the Pet Shop podcast:

Quote Message: I've actually been recording over the past few months. You're always getting inspired - that's the thing. You change and evolve and develop as a person, so as soon I got back in the studio I've been creating all these new sounds. It's really exciting.
  7. Axl Rose is 'working on new material'

    Pitchfork

    Axl Rose

While we were all busy talking about the Fat Axl meme's Axl Rose wants taking off the internet, the Guns N'Roses star was busy taking part in a talk with Sir David Tang at London's China Exchange.

They discussed his desire to write a tell-all book on the band and he revealed Guns N' Roses are working on new material:

“I got a lot of stuff together, and I played some stuff for Slash and Duff and they liked it, and they might be on it,” said Rose.

He said he and AC/DC’s Angus Young - who he's been touring with after taking over singing duties from Brian Johnson who has hearing problems - are also "talking about working together.”

Rose added he'd like to write a book about Guns N'Roses - but had yet to figure out a way to “word things in a way that doesn’t look like being negative to everybody else and calling them a liar.”

  8. What music stars think about the EU referendum

    Ellie Goulding

Ever wondered what Ellie Goulding thinks about Brexit? Or wanted to hear Yannis from Foals' take on immigration?

Well, if you're one of the many still undecided about how to vote in this month's EU referendum, Newsbeat's handy round-up of the way the UK's pop stars and musicians are thinking may or may not be of some assistance.

Either way, it's still pretty interesting to hear their thoughts - from Stormzy on exercising our right to vote, to Bombay Bicycle Club on the cost of touring Europe for new bands.

  9. The Stone Roses rumoured to be releasing another new song

    Ian Brown

Fans of The Stone Roses love a rumour - and today's concerns the possible release of a second new single any time now.

A song called Beautiful Thing showed up on music copyright website PPL last night and details were promptly tweeted:

    View more on twitter

The band released All For One last month - their first new song in 22 years - and some fans have suggested this could just be the B-side of the vinyl release coming on 1 July.

However NME reported yesterday that Reni had told a fan before Tuesday’s warm-up show in Halifax that the band had "100%” recorded more new material and it sounded “beautiful”.

They play a series of gigs at Manchester's Ethiad Stadium next week.

  10. Bernie Clifton and ostrich to appear at Kerrang! Awards

    Abhorrent Decimation with Bernie Clifton

It's not a headline you see every day, is it?

Ostrich-riding entertainer Bernie Clifton is to appear at the Kerrang! Awards tonight after a blunder saw death metal songs listed on the back of his CD.

The 80-year-old entertainer said he was "absolutely devastated" when tracks by the band Abhorrent Decimation were mistakenly printed on his album cover.

But he has since invited the band to his home in Derbyshire, and said they were "absolutely charming".

He is due to present an award at the annual music awards show later.

"I'm coping with the strain of being a rock star," he said. "I'm the rock legend you've all been waiting for."

  11. Red Hot Chili Peppers to do Corden's carpool karaoke

    Flea from RHCP

From Elton John and Gwen Stefani to Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber and Jennifer Lopez, it seems doing James Corden's carpool karaoke is an essential part of being a popstar nowadays.

The Late Late Show feature has become hugely popular - especially on social media - as celebs become Corden's passengers for mass in-car sing-a-longs.

Now he's booked Red Hot Chili Peppers, and with all four members of the band due to take part it might be a tight squeeze.

We don't want to get our hopes up too much, but we're hoping for renditions of Californication and Under the Bridge, plus something nice and random like a singalong to Little Mix's Hair.

  12. Beyonce sued over Lemonade trailer

    Beyonce

Beyonce's Lemonade has been one of the biggest album releases of this year, but - bar a short trailer the week before - its existence was kept under wraps until the accompanying short film premiered on HBO.

The trailer featured a series of short clips with no apparent narrative, many of them featuring Beyonce, and ended simply on a caption which read: "Lemonade - A world premiere event."

Now, an independent filmmaker called Matthew Fulks claims that the trailer copied elements of one of his works - Palinoia.

Fulks claims members of the creative teams at Sony Music, Columbia Recording and Beyonce's Parkwood Entertainment were aware of his work before the filming of Lemonade began, and were influenced by it.

    His complaint states:

Quote Message: The number of aesthetic decisions included in Plaintiff’s Palinoia work that are parroted in Defendants’ Lemonade trailer demonstrates that the Lemonade Trailer is substantially similar to the Palinoia work.

The complaint cites nine visual similarities between the two films, including graffiti, people seen in red with their eyes obscured and shots filmed on stairwells and in an underground car park:

    Still from Palinoia

  13. Paul Weller to join Damon Albarn, Africa Express and Syrian orchestra

    Paul Weller

Paul Weller is teaming up with Damon Albarn and Syrian musicians for a special show in London later this month, which is part of the Southbank Centre's Refugee Week.

Weller's one of the guest artists taking part in Africa Express presents... The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians - with Damon Albarn & Guests at the Royal Festival Hall on 25 June.

Performers from around the world including Bassekou Kouyaté, Julia Holter, Bu Kolthoum, Eslam Jawaad, Faia Younan, Rachid Taha and TALA will be showcasing Syrian and Arabic Music.

Albarn first played with Syrian conductor Issam Rafea and other musicians at the Damascus Opera House in 2008 and members of the orchestra later featured on Gorillaz track White Flag and toured with the group.

Albarn said the show would be "a great night":

Quote Message: We’re so used to seeing Syria through the prism of news, which is entirely a negative thing. This concert will give a completely different perspective. It’s a truly miraculous sound they create… There’s a whole choir, there’s strings, there’s soloists, there’s amazing percussion. It’s a really dynamic and joyous sound.

It's not known if Weller will be with the collective when they perform at Glastonbury the day before - opening the Pyramid Stage on the Friday - but Kano and Bashy are among the artists set to perform there.

  14. Metronomy debut a second new track from Summer 08

Following the funky old school vibe of recent track Old Skool, Metronomy have unveiled a second new song called Back Together.

It's taken from forthcoming album Summer 08, which the band say reflects on "the college years".

Back Together is the album's lively opening track, suggesting it'll have more in common with 2011's Mercury-nominated The English Riviera than 2014's laid back Love Letters.

    Listen for yourself below:

Metronomy aren't planning any live shows around the new record, but singer and songwriter Joe Mount is doing a Summer 08 DJ set at Field Day in London this weekend.

  15. Bowie producer criticises 'fluff' modern pop music

    Tony Visconti

Tony Visconti, best known for his work with David Bowie, has been speaking to the Daily Star, as you do, about the current state of pop music.

It's fair to say he's not a massive fan.

Quote Message: You turn the radio on and it’s fluff, you are listening to 90% computerised voices. We know Adele has a great voice but it’s even questionable if that is actually her voice or how much has been manipulated. We don’t know.

    Ouch.

Quote Message: There’s a sound to pop now that is so perfect it’s boring, because everything is fixed. I’m looking for virtuosos like Hendrix, Cobain and Bowie. There’s no fluffy back story, there’s no: ‘I lost my pet dog in 97 and that made me want to play’ nonsense.

His stance may have something to do with his role on the new series of Sky Arts talent show Guitar Star.

Quote Message: No-one can mistake me for Simon Cowell. Today is the worst time ever in the music industry, but Guitar Star is a step in the right direction.
  16. MNEK gets a bout of insomnia in new video At Night

Go-to producer MNEK has worked with everyone from Beyonce to Duke Dumont and Little Mix - but can he get a good night's sleep? Not if the tossing and turning in his new video At Night (I Think About You) is anything to go by.

"At Night is a song about insomnia so I wanted that captured in the video," he told Fader.

"For me, it was to make sure a mix of people from different walks of life were showcased going through the different stages of it. The restlessness, the frustration - the overthinking too! Patrick Killingbeck directed it and he and his team really brought it on home."

    View more on youtube

MNEK's busy weekend won't help matters much - he's on the line-up for both Parklife in Manchester and the Capital FM Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium.

  17. Latest Radiohead album coming to Spotify

    Radiohead

'Band's music available on Spotify' might not be the most earth-shattering headline in the history of news - but things are always a little more interesting when Radiohead are involved.

The band have a track record of releasing music in an unconventional way. In 2007, they made their album In Rainbows available to buy on their website for an unspecified price, letting fans choose to pay what they thought it was worth.

Lead singer Thom Yorke hasn't always been the biggest fan of streaming, either. If Radiohead and Spotify were in a relationship, their Facebook status would probably read "It's complicated."

In the past, he's told The Guardian:

Quote Message: When we did the In Rainbows thing, what was most exciting was the idea you could have a direct connection between you as a musician and your audience. You cut all of it out. And then all these [streaming services] get in the way, like Spotify suddenly trying to become the gatekeepers to the whole process. We don’t need you to do it, we can build it ourselves.

However the band's latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, is going to become available on Spotify from 17 June.

Until now, it was only streamable on Tidal and Apple Music - as both services have no free tier.

Could this mean the band have buried the hatchet with Spotify?

  18. Sainsbury's becomes 'biggest vinyl retailer' in the UK

    DJ spinning vinyl records

Earlier this year, we brought you the news that Sainsbury's was going to start stocking vinyl records.

"Sacrilege!" cried music fans. "I'm sticking to Berwick Street!" many swore.

But - as much as many purist music fans may not want to be seen sticking Adele's 25 on vinyl in their shopping basket with the bread and milk, it clearly wasn't a bad business move.

Sainsbury's now claims to be the biggest seller of vinyl in the UK.

According to the company's first quarter 2016 trading report, consumer demand for vinyl grew by 70% in the first quarter of this year.

The supermarket claims to have an 8% market share of all vinyl sold in the UK.

  19. Justin Bieber unveils new video Company

Despite his recent pleas for privacy and new 'no-photos-with-fans' policy, Justin Bieber has decided to let us have a glimpse into his world in new video Company - inviting fans on a behind-the-scenes, mainly shirtless, journey around the world.

Featuring footage shot during his current Purpose World Tour as well as in the studio, we see Justin napping in a hammock, hanging out on a yacht, doing a photo shoot, snowboarding, skateboarding and doing a lot of larking about.

    View more on youtube

Here's what the singer had to say on the matter:

Quote Message: Personally, I love this video because it’s an honest look at my journey. The process of putting together this album and this tour - surrounded by people I love to be with - has been really special. I’m proud of it, it’s been a lot of fun and lot of hard work, and I think that really shows in video. I hope my fans like it as I much as I do, because it’s really all for you.
  20. Aerosmith's Steven Tyler reveals solo album details

    Steven Tyler

Rock royalty Steven Tyler is gearing up to release his first solo album. Don't worry, we've got all the details, as we know you won't want to miss a thing (sorry, not sorry).

The Aerosmith frontman has been dipping his toes in country music waters for some time, and now he's told Rolling Stone that he's jumping in "neck deep".

He's confirmed his debut solo album will be called We’re All Somebody From Somewhere and released on 15 July.

It'll feature 15 songs, including his first two country singles Love Is Your Name and Red, White and You. If you've missed these gems, here's a flavour:
