A man from Banbury who pleaded guilty to flytipping at The Link in the town has been made to pay £420 in fines, legal costs, clean-up charges and victim surcharge.

Ben Birch of Windrush, Banbury, had dumped fencing slats and conifer cuttings, but a resident filmed the incident and handed the video to the council.

A group of 11 men were responsible for a break-in at a jewellers in Oxford's Clarendon Centre in the early hours of this morning, Thames Valley Police say.

Four men used steel wire to block access to Queen Street, while the remaining seven forced their way into Goldsmiths and stole stock, believed to be watches.

CCTV captured the incident, but the burglars covered their faces and used umbrellas to shield their faces. The Clarendon Centre has now reopened.

The founder of an Oxford charity that uses art to help young people struggling in mainstream education has been appointed OBE.

Juli Beattie set up the Art Room in 2002 and was honoured for services to education.

In 2012 the Duchess of Cambridge became the charity's Royal Patron.

The six-strong team of firefighters from Banbury who took the county's High Volume Pump to the north of England to help with flood relief work are returning home today.
