  2. Johnny Depp goes batty

If you're a fan of either Johnny Depp or baby animals prepare to squeal or say "ahhhhh".

Johnny Depp dropped in at the Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Centre over the weekend to see how Jacki Sparrow - an orphaned bat he sponsored in May - was doing.

Of course, he had to visit while dressed in full Jack Sparrow costume.

The bat clinic posted a video of Depp bottle feeding the flying fox, who is now 10 weeks old and teething.

  3. Ashton and Mila suing MailOnline

    Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have issued High Court legal proceedings against MailOnline over two articles featuring pictures of them with their daughter, Wyatt.

The lawyer told the BBC the legal claim was "for misuse of private information and breaches of the Data Protection Act", concerning "the wrongful publication of paparazzi photographs of family outings".

The claim also concerns the unauthorised use of the photographs to promote clothing products by the Mail.

"Ashton and Mila understandably value their private and family life, and in particular their personal time with their daughter," their lawyer, Paul Tweed, told the BBC.

"Like any other family they should be allowed to enjoy family outings without being pursued by photographers. They have made it clear that they do not agree to the publication of photographs of such occasions."

Associated Newspapers has yet to respond to a request for comment on the legal action.

  4. Watch Kanye West's abrupt stage exit

Kanye West threw his microphone in the air and walked off stage at a show in Toronto last night.

The rapper had performed for 13 minutes when he apparently suffered technical difficulties and turned his back on the crowd.

Several fans captured the moment and posted it to social media.

Prior to that, the star - who performed with no lights and no video screens - had been receiving rapturous reviews for his seven-song hits medley.

But it is not clear whether he cut the show short. He was one of several performers on the bill for the closing ceremony of the Pan American Games in Toronto, and had been preceded by Pitbull and Serena Ryder.

The official broadcaster, CBC, simply tweeted there had been "technical difficulties".

If the sound problems really were responsible for an early exit, it's a shame. When Kanye gigs go well, anything can happen.

  5. Protests over Frankie Boyle gig

    Frankie Boyle

Disability groups in Northern Ireland are calling for a comedy show by Frankie Boyle to be called off, because he has a history of making jokes about Down's syndrome.

A petition has been handed over to the organisers of the community arts festival Féile an Phobail, while protests have taken place outside their offices.

One of the protestors, John Lundy, told the BBC: "This is a community festival, it's part funded by public money, and it is seeking to mock one of the most vulnerable groups in our society.

"I object to my money being used to make my daughter and others like her the butt of his jokes."

Festival organiser Kevin Campbell said: "We do understand there has been hurt caused and real emotion."

But, he added: "The gig won't be cancelled."

U2 posted a couple of pictures on Instagram, saying: "All hail her Gaganess."

  7. Liverpool Music Week announces line-up

    Best Coast

Gang of Four, Soak, Best Coast (pictured above) and Godspeed You! Black Emperor will all descend on Liverpool this October for the 11th annual Liverpool Music Week.

The indoor festival has previously played host to the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Florence and The Machine, Dizzee Rascal and Super Furry Animals.

More acts for this year's line-up will be announced soon; while full details of the line-up so far are on the official website.

  8. Who wrote what?

    Entertainment Weekly

    Miley Cyrus in 2009

There's been a bit of a kerfuffle in the rapping world recently after Meek claimed Drake didn't write his own raps.

To illustrate how many chart-topping hits have been written by someone other than the person who performed it, Entertainment Weekly has devised a quiz to test your knowledge of musical ghostwriters.

Do you know who wrote Miley Cyrus's Party in the USA or Cee Lo Green's Forget You?

  9. Redknapps say no to Strictly

    Louise and Jamie Redknapp

Showbiz couple Jamie and Louise Redknapp will not be appearing on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, their spokeswoman has said.

The rumour mill went into overdrive this weekend after reports suggested the pair would be fox-trotting off against each other.

"The story reported is completely untrue. Jamie and Louise are not appearing in Strictly this year," the spokeswoman said. So that's us told then.

Other stars rumoured to be taking part this year include husband and wife presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, Peter Andre and EastEnders actor Shane Ritchie.

We shouldn't have long to wait until the line-up is revealed though - last year's contestants were announced in August, so expect some news soon.

  10. Ed Sheeran's Wembley shows get TV outing

    Ed Sheeran

Good news if you're an Ed Sheeran fan who (a) missed him playing Wembley Stadium, and (b) lives in America - the concert is being broadcast on NBC on 16 August.

Two of the three concerts were filmed and will be edited down into one megashow.

On the Saturday night show, Ed even stopped and re-started You Need Me, I Don't Need You after a technical fault, so he could get it right for the cameras.

Other tracks likely to feature in the set list are The A Team, Thinking Out Loud, his Elton John duet Don't Go Breaking My Heart and Small Bump - which Ed played at Wembley for the first time in five years.

"It really doesn't get any bigger than Wembley," the star said. "It's definitely a personal milestone and I'm so glad to share this special moment with all of my fans."

Non-American fans don't need to buy a plane ticket - the shows will be issued on DVD later this year.

  11. Everybody needs bad neighbours

    Chloe Grace Moretz

Chloe Grace Moretz - best known for Kick Ass and The Equalizer - has signed up for an unspecified role in comedy sequel Bad Neighbours 2.

The first film - about a suburban couple whose lives were thrown into disarray by the arrival of a frat house next door - became a surprise hit, making £173m at the global box office.

That was enough to warrant a second instalment, with Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne all returning.

In the new script, Efron's boisterous fraternity has moved away - but when even worse neighbours turn up, Rogen and Byrne enlist his help to fight back.

Reporting Moretz's casting, Variety says it is her first foray into comedy. They clearly missed her as Alec Baldwin's scheming schoolgirl nemesis Kaylie Hooper in 30 Rock.

  13. Ofcom clears Top Gear 'pikey' comment

    Top Gear

Ofcom has backed a BBC Trust decision not to censure Top Gear over the use of the word "pikey".

The Traveller Movement complained after former host Jeremy Clarkson was seen holding a placard inscribed with the words "Pikey's Peak" while at Pikes Peak in Worcestershire.

In March, the BBC Trust said the phrase had been used to mean "cheap", rather than as a term of racial offence.

Ofcom said there was "sufficient context in the way the word was used to minimise offence".

A spokesman for the Traveller Movement said they were "appalled", adding: "Their decision that this particular use has no reference to Gypsies and Travellers is bankrupt."

  16. Snoop Dogg 'racially profiled' in Sweden

    BBC Newsbeat

    Radio 1 and 1Xtra

    Snoop Dogg

Rapper Snoop Dogg has accused Swedish police of racial profiling after he was stopped and briefly detained on suspicion of possessing drugs.

The star posted a video from the back of a police car, saying he had been pulled over "for nothing".

"All I did was came to this country and did a concert, and now I got to go to the police station... for nothing."

In a later post he described his experience as "profiling, racial profiling" adding: "They came and snatched me out of my car".

Police in Uppsala say they're still waiting on the results to confirm if the rapper had drugs in his system.

But Snoop isn't sticking around to find out. He told Swedish fans: "Sorry about that peoples, I'll never be back to ya'll country. It's been real".

The level of secrecy surrounding Rogue One means that this is one of the first pieces of casting news since it was confirmed that Oscar and Bafta nominee Felicity Jones would play a lead character in the film.

Star Wars: Rogue One will tell the story of "a brave band of resistance fighters uniting to steal the plans to the Death Star".

Aris plays Anderson, a forensic scientist and founder of "The Empty Hearse" society in Sherlock. He has also appeared in acclaimed BBC drama Wolf Hall.

  22. Mysterious circumstances of Bobbi Kristina's death

The day before she was discovered unresponsive in a bathtub, Bobbi Kristina Brown had been tweeting about her future plans.

    View more on twitter

The 22-year-old was trying to launch an acting and singing career, hoping to follow in the footsteps of her world-famous mother, Whitney Houston.

The plans will never be completed now.

The youngster began performing with her mother as early as 1999, singing duets of My Love is Your Love and recording Little Drummer Boy for a holiday album in 2003.

She was taken to hospital twice with anxiety after her mother's death, and rumours circulated about her drug use.

The circumstances of Bobbi Kristina's death are still the subject of a criminal investigation.

Although she was found face down in her bath, the 22-year-old also had bruises on the front of her body.

Her partner, Nick Gordon, says the bruises may have come about when he attempted to resuscitate her using CPR.

Authorities later concluded she had suffered injuries to her face and mouth in a car crash several days earlier, saying it was not the result of foul play.

    Bobbi Kristina Brown

But relations between Gordon and some of Bobbi Kristina's other relatives have soured since she was placed in a medically-induced coma in January.

A protective order barred him from being within 200 feet of Pat Houston, Bobbi Kristina's aunt. And on 24 June, Bobbi Kristina's court-appointed representative sued Gordon, accusing him of misrepresenting his relationship with her.

The complaint accused him of violence and said he "often answered Brown's personal cell phone, would not allow her to make appointments without his approval, and manipulated her bank relationship so that he could access her money".

He also allegedly transferred $11,000 (£7,100) of Bobbi Kristina's funds into an account controlled solely by him while she was in hospital.

    Gordon was never charged.

As Bobbi Kristina's health deteriorated last month, US authorities said they would be reviewing the circumstances of her condition "with greater interest".

"An announcement regarding a charging decision, if any, will be made at the appropriate time," Fulton County District Attorney Paul L Howard Jr told People magazine.

  23. Rachel McAdams confirms Doctor Strange talks

    LA Times

    Rachel McAdams

It's been rumoured for a couple of weeks Rachel McAdams is being lined up to star as the female lead in Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange, but now the Canadian actress has confirmed the whispers herself.

She told the Los Angeles Times she was considering the role:

Quote Message: It's still super-early days, and I don't know where that's gonna go - if it's gonna go anywhere at all.

But even though a number of big name Hollywood actresses have joined comic book franchises in recent years - including Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson -  McAdams said she didn't feel like she should make a comic book movie just to follow in their footsteps.

Quote Message: I try to shut out ideas about why you should do things. Trying to do good architecture and really designing a career? There's some attention to be paid to that, but I don't think it's everything.

Benedict Cumberbatch has already been cast as Dr Stephen Strange, with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton also attached to star.

The giant pink balloon dog, on display in the US state of Utah, took four days to make, using 8,867 balloons.

It measures 65ft (19.8m) by 32ft (9.8m), which a Guinness World Record official said "blew the old record out of the water".

  26. Sam Smith back with Disclosure

    Sam Smith

Dance act Disclosure gave Sam Smith his first big break, when they invited him to sing on the top 20 hit Latch, back in 2012.

Now Sam's returned the favour, lending his silky smooth tones to the duo's new single, Omen.

The single is the result of a 48-hour writing session, Guy Lawrence explains.

Quote Message: It was the most successful two days of songwriting we’d ever had. We wrote five amazing songs, a few for Sam and Omen.

The video is the second of a four-part series shot in Mexico that, viewed together, will make a short film.

Set in a dystopian future (is there any other kind?), the story follows a young girl smuggling a mysterious "ink" through a police state, while lots of pensive and sweaty men have heated discussions on rooftops.

The Sam Smith clip doesn't really do anything to progress the narrative - but you can watch it below.

  27. Dionne Warwick pays tribute to Bobbi

    Dionne Warwick

Whitney Houston's cousin Dionne Warwick made a moving tribute to Bobbi Kristina Brown in a TV appearance on Sunday.

"She's a sweetheart. She will be missed, that's for sure. She was a good girl," the singer told Andy Cohen on US chat show Watch What Happens Live.

Asked how a family recovers from such a loss, Warwick told Cohen: "It's not easy, that's for sure.

"I think it's because of our faith and strength in faith, knowing that Bobbi is now with a much, much bigger and more powerful person - or thing, according to who or how you believe - than we'll ever know.

"She's in much better hands now."

  28. Unhappyish end for Steve Coogan

Steve Coogan's US sitcom Happyish has been axed by cable network Showtime after one season.

The actor starred as a middle-aged ad exec in the satirical comedy - a role he took over from Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of a drug overdose shortly after filming the pilot last year.

But the show, which also starred Ellen Barkin and Kathryn Hahn, failed to attract viewers with the 28 June finale attracting just 261,000.

Here's a clip from the show. It was liberal on the profanities but, thankfully, they've all been bleeped out.

  29. Bill Cosby accusers speak out in New York magazine

    New York Magazine

Bill Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by more than 40 women over the last year, with the alleged incidents dating back decades.

In a striking, powerful cover story, New York Magazine has gathered together 35 of those women to tell their stories.

    Barbara Bowman's account is typical.

Quote Message: I felt like a prisoner; I felt like I was kidnapped and hiding in plain sight. I could have walked down any street in Manhattan at any time and said, 'I'm being raped and drugged by Bill Cosby,' but who the hell would have believed me? Nobody, nobody. from Barbara Bowman

The women's testimony has been published online, along with a portfolio of portraits and group photographs by Amanda Demme.

Such is the interest in the story, the New York Magazine website appears to have crashed. The article is cached but hopefully the original will be back online by the time you read this.
