Can Savea be the greatest ever?

After overtaking Jonah Lomu for international tries scored – Ali Williams and Bryan Habana discuss whether Julian Savea can become the greatest player ever.

As Julian Savea moves up to 15th on the all-time international try scorers list, and overtakes Jonah Lomu for international tries scored – All Black Ali Williams and South Africa’s Bryan Habana discuss whether he can become the greatest player ever.

Savea scored 3 tries for New Zealand on Saturday as his side beat France 62-13 in the Rugby World Cup quarterfinal. Savea has now scored 38 tries since his international debut in 2012, while Lomu’s career total is 37.

On those comparisons with the All-Blacks legend Lomu, Williams says, “I think Lomu is a stand-alone freak of the game…Savea has the ability to still be a freak and create his own path, his own folklore history.”

Habana, who will face Savea in the World Cup semifinals as South Africa take on New Zealand, says “I have a huge amount of respect for Savea…he’s been playing unbelievable rugby” while Williams adds, “Can Savea be the greatest ever? For sure”.
