Finishing touches have been added to the one of the world's most famous locomotives, the Doncaster-built Flying Scotsman.

Take a look at my chat with Ian Hewitt, part of the team repainting the Scotsman:

  4. South Yorkshire Fire Service responds to firefighters' industrial action vote

    James Vincent

    Reporter BBC Look North

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is trying to reassure people ahead of industrial action by firefighters starting next week following a ballot of Fire Brigades Union (FBU) members.

In a statement, the fire service says while "disappointed" at the decision by the FBU, the action will have "no noticeable effect" on the the 999 service.

The fire service adds no control centre staff will lose their jobs: a planned cut in posts is being achieved by not filling vacancies.

Firefighters consider the call handlers frontline staff because they dispatch crews to fires.

Quote Message: The number of calls to our control room has fallen significantly in recent years. At the same time, we have had some big reductions to our funding and must look at making changes to all areas of the organisation to help protect the number of fire engines available to respond to 999 calls." from South Yorkshire Fire Service

  5. White blood cell found in birds 'can destroy fatal infection'

A specialised white blood cell found in birds can destroy an infection thought to cause hundreds of thousands of human deaths a year, scientists from Sheffield and Birmingham universities claim.

Cryptococcus neoformans is a fungus that can cause a fatal infection in people with weakened immune systems - particularly those with advanced HIV.

Birds are known to carry the fungus, with experts puzzled why the birds themselves do not appear to become ill.

  6. Analysis: Industrial action ballot shows division at South Yorkshire Fire Service

    James Vincent

    Reporter BBC Look North

Resentment has been building at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for a while prior to today's announcement of industrial action by members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) following a ballot.

This ballot is about cuts to call handling staff, but firefighters are unhappy about several things.

The FBU has been protesting about cuts in general, but the payments to senior officers during previous strikes has damaged relations between officers and their crews. Though the payments were found to be legal, in the end the argument meant the chair of the Fire Authority had to resign just yesterday.

The FBU says call handlers are frontline staff - the people who dispatch firefighters to sometimes dangerous jobs.

This industrial action is technically about one issue, but when FBU members were voting in the ballot, they also had other things on their minds.
