    Harriet Petley, 14, could play for England Women's Under-15s next month in Germany after the Woodbridge School student received her first international call-up.

    Petley became the first footballer from the Suffolk FA Advance Coaching Centre to receive England recognition last October, when she was selected for a training camp. 

    "She is a privilege to have in our centre and is a credit to our county," said Suffolk FA girls' & women's development officer, Paige Shorten. "I wish her all the best in Germany."

  7. £82,000 cash found in Beck Row property seized

    More than £82,000 of cash has been seized by police under the Proceeds of Crime Act during a search of a property.

    The discovery was made on 16 January during a search at Willow Park, Beck Row, in which a commercial cannabis production plant was found.

    £12,000 was found stuffed inside a sock, £53,000 in a plastic lunchbox, and the remaining thousands were discovered in a kitchen cupboard.

  8. Suffolk schoolgirl set for England football debut

    Woodbridge School student Harriet Petley could line-up for England in Dusseldorf next month after being named in the Women's Under-15 squad to play Germany.

    The 14-year-old plays for Woodbridge Town boys, and is also ranked in the top 10 tennis players in England for her age group. 

    "It would be a great feeling to pull on an England shirt," she said. "I was pretty shocked at the call-up, but very happy."

  12. Court date set over steel collapse deaths

    A court date has been set for three companies and one individual charged with safety offences over the deaths of four Suffolk men killed when a steel structure collapsed on them in Great Yarmouth in January 2011.

    Claxton Engineering Services, Encompass Project Management, its director David Groucott and Hazegood Construction have all been charged under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

    They have been summoned to appear before Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court in 2 February.

    The Health and Safety Executive has charged three companies and one man with safety offences over the deaths of four Suffolk men killed when a steel structure collapsed on them in Great Yarmouth.

    Daniel Hazelton, 30, his brother Thomas Hazelton, 26, and Peter Johnson, 42, all from Stanton, near Bury St Edmunds; and Adam Taylor, 28, of Rickinghall, Suffolk, were killed at Claxton Engineering Services' yard on 21 January 2011.

    The HSE has charged:

    • Claxton Engineering Services Ltd of Ferryside, Ferry Road, Norwich, Norfolk, under Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
    • Encompass Project Management Ltd, of The Gables, Old Market Street, Thetford, Norfolk, under Section 3 HSWA
    • David Groucott, Director of Encompass Project Management Ltd, under Section 37 of HSWA
    • Hazegood Construction Ltd, of Bury Lodge, Bury Road, Stowmarket, Suffolk, under Sections 2 and 3 of HSWA

  17. Further arrest over Bury St Edmunds shooting

    A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Bury St Edmunds last summer. The 20-year-old, from Matlock, is being questioned in Derbyshire by Suffolk Police, on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

    Five men have been charged with conspiracy to murder and remanded in custody pending a trial at Ipswich Crown Court listed to begin in April. 

    A woman facing the same charges is currently on bail, with a plea and case management hearing due by the middle of February.

  18. Bury Town: Boss Chenery refusing to rule out play-offs

    Despite being 11th in the Ryman Division North and on a run of one win in their last eight league games, Bury Town can still go up this season, according to their manager.

    Ben Chenery has been speaking to BBC Suffolk Sport ahead of tonight's game at Witham Town and is refusing to give-up on his side's play-off chances.

    "Football's a funny old game and if you put a run of results together lots of teams will falter. There'll always be that one play-off place that's up for grabs," he said.

  19. New schools on the agenda

    Senior councillors are being asked to approve seven new primary schools and two new special educational needs schools.

    A report to Suffolk County Council's cabinet, which meets later today, says just under 1,500 places are needed to cope with demand.

    The new primary schools would be in Red Lodge, Lakenheath, Stowmarket, Sudbury, Lowestoft and two in Ipswich. The new special schools would be in the latter two towns.
