'Trapped' Basildon burglar jailed after he called 999

A man has been jailed for six months after dialling 999 when he became trapped by the security shutter of the petrol station he had broken into.

Paul Davies, 47, admitted the attempted burglary when he appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court.

He called police to ask them for help after getting trapped by the security device at Asda in Eastgate, Basildon on Saturday.

Davies, of Thistledown, Basildon, was taken to hospital with leg injuries.

He was ordered to pay £60 in compensation and a £180 court charge.
