John Whittingdale said the licence fee would be extended so it no longer just applied to live television viewers.

He told the Oxford Media Convention he would bring forward the legislation "as soon as practicable", later adding it could be in this parliamentary session.

Patients waiting to be admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital from an ambulance will be attended to by experienced nurses along with the ambulance crew, according to Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust was responding to figures which show that on average one patient a week had to wait in an ambulance for more than an hour before being admitted to A&E last year.

It's thought to be more than 100 years old and has brought joy to many children at the hospital over the years.

The work was made possible by the family of nine-year-old Elana Proctor as a way of saying thank you for the care she's received.

Victoria Pendleton won her first race as an amateur jockey on 5-4 favourite Pacha Du Polder at Wincanton today.

The Thame-based double Olympic cycling champion, who has been riding for just over a year, jumped well and led all the way to win on the nine-year-old.

Pendleton hopes to ride Pacha Du Polder in the amateur Foxhunter Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on 18 March.

The chairman of Chipping Norton Town Council is urging everyone in the town to have their say on whether the council can have a hand in controlling future developments in the area.

BBC Radio Oxford has discovered that at the John Radcliffe Hospital last year, on average, one patient a week had to wait for more than an hour.

But the picture does appear to be improving. In 2013 more than 200 patients waited for more than an hour outside A&E.

After a delay caused by technical glitches, emails are being sent to parents letting them know what secondary school their children will attend.

The county council said that letters had also been sent out by first class post, and should arrive on Thursday.

Some parents had complained about the system, which left them without confirmation yesterday, whereas other students had found out.

A geography textbook that prompted a complaint from the Ukrainian embassy for showing Crimea as part of Russia has been changed.

Oxford University Press was criticised for descriptions and maps of the peninsula in its Geog.3 title.

Now the publisher has said following feedback from customers its updated textbook "explains the situation in Crimea in more detail".

A new railway station in Oxford could begin construction in 2019 if funding can be found for the project, the city council says.
