  7. BBC iPlayer 'loophole' to be closed, Oxford Media Conference told

    The culture secretary has vowed to end the iPlayer "loophole" soon, so those watching catch-up TV do not get "a free ride".

    John Whittingdale said the licence fee would be extended so it no longer just applied to live television viewers.

    He told the Oxford Media Convention he would bring forward the legislation "as soon as practicable", later adding it could be in this parliamentary session.

  8. Nurses 'support patients waiting in ambulances'

    Patients waiting to be admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital from an ambulance will be attended to by experienced nurses along with the ambulance crew, according to Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

    The trust was responding to figures which show that on average one patient a week had to wait in an ambulance for more than an hour before being admitted to A&E last year.

  9. Travel latest: A34 slow in patches and busy on Oxford's outbound routes

    • It's very busy in Oxford on the Marston Ferry Road, and on the London Road in Headington

  10. Oxford United manager has 'lots of reasons to be happy'

    Oxford United manager Michael Appleton says he has "lots of reasons to be happy" after last night's 4-0 win against York moved his team up to second in League Two.

    Speaking after the match he was joined by Jordan Bowery, who opened the scoring in the match, and said the match "couldn't have gone much better" for him.

  11. Rocking horse repair thanks for hospital

    A much-loved antique rocking horse at Oxford's children's hospital has been returned to its former glory.

    It's thought to be more than 100 years old and has brought joy to many children at the hospital over the years.

    The work was made possible by the family of nine-year-old Elana Proctor as a way of saying thank you for the care she's received.

  12. Victoria Pendleton wins first race as a jockey

    Victoria Pendleton won her first race as an amateur jockey on 5-4 favourite Pacha Du Polder at Wincanton today.

    The Thame-based double Olympic cycling champion, who has been riding for just over a year, jumped well and led all the way to win on the nine-year-old.

    Pendleton hopes to ride Pacha Du Polder in the amateur Foxhunter Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on 18 March.

  13. Chipping Norton mayor urges residents to vote yes for town's Neighbourhood Plan

  14. Coming up on Drivetime with David Prever: A&E ambulance waiting times

    If you were taken to A&E in an ambulance, how long would you expect to be left waiting in the vehicle outside the hospital?

    BBC Radio Oxford has discovered that at the John Radcliffe Hospital last year, on average, one patient a week had to wait for more than an hour.

    But the picture does appear to be improving. In 2013 more than 200 patients waited for more than an hour outside A&E.

  16. Secondary school admissions emails sent out

    After a delay caused by technical glitches, emails are being sent to parents letting them know what secondary school their children will attend.

    The county council said that letters had also been sent out by first class post, and should arrive on Thursday.

    Some parents had complained about the system, which left them without confirmation yesterday, whereas other students had found out.

  17. Geography textbook changed after Crimea row

    A geography textbook that prompted a complaint from the Ukrainian embassy for showing Crimea as part of Russia has been changed

    Oxford University Press was criticised for descriptions and maps of the peninsula in its Geog.3 title.

    Now the publisher has said following feedback from customers its updated textbook "explains the situation in Crimea in more detail".

  18. New Oxford station 'could be built in 2019'

    A new railway station in Oxford could begin construction in 2019 if funding can be found for the project, the city council says.
