Karl William Lund: Miracle

Listen to Karl William Lund’s entry for Eurovision: You Decide 2016, Miracle

29 year-old singer-songwriter Karl is from Liverpool and studied music at John Moores University. While there he taught himself to play the guitar... "I’m left handed, it was quite difficult! So I locked myself in a room until I learnt all the chords."

I feel ready for this, like all the hard work over the years has brought me to this point

Later he gained a following for his music by uploading tracks to YouTube. A cover of Beyonce's Halo was spotted by Ryan Seacrest and Karl was featured on the American Idol host's website.

Karl first wrote Miracle in 2012 but revisited it when his brother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer. "Seeing him go through the chemotherapy with a smile on his face was inspiring, and he was the missing link to the song. He had a miraculous recovery and that caused me to come back to the song and rework it."

His favourite part of the song is the lyric 'chasing down your star will never be the same again' - Karl says "it references when the love and admiration for somebody has taken on a new meaning because of the experience they've come through."

When it comes to his favourite all-time Eurovision songs, Karl has a soft spot for recent Norwegian entries: "I really liked entry Monster Like Me (Mørland & Debrah Scarlett) last year, and the year before that Carl Espen’s Silent Storm again from Norway. Both really beautiful songs."
