Luton jazz club reaches more than 80% of crowdfunding campaign

A Luton jazz bar has reached more than 80% in its crowdfunding campaign to raise money to soundproof the venue after it was served with a noise abatement order.

The Bear Club, which says it needs £9,400 to meet the requirements set out by Luton Borough Council, has just 14 days left on its campaign.
In an email, owner Justin Doherty thanks those who have supported the club.

Malorie Bantala, 22, was walking home in Peckham when she was attacked by Kevin Wilson, 22, and a 17-year-old accomplice in June.
As the jurors delivered their verdicts Ms Bantala became tearful before screaming at Wilson: "I'm going to kill you... I hate you," and running from court.

Shahena Uddin, 19, had attended the Queens' School, which said in a statement it believed it acted appropriately with regard to Miss Uddin.

Police and council funding: Beds significantly lower than PCC wanted

Councils and police forces across the three counties have found out their funding for the next year, following a government announcement earlier.

Bedfordshire Police gets an increase of 0.4%, Thames Valley 0.6% and Hertfordshire gets 1%. For Beds, this is £400 000 - significantly lower than the Bedfordshire Police Commisisoner Olly Martins wanted, indeed earlier this year he wanted to raise £4m in a council tax rise.
Councils will have a £3.5b pot to help pay for social care costs, and will work towards being self-sufficient in five years - a move council leaders have cautiously welcomed.
