While much attention has been focussed on the Latitude Festival taking place at Henham Park this weekend, we mustn't forget another event taking place a little further north in the county.

The first ever Lowestoft Summer Festival is taking place between now and Sunday. Tomorrow one of the highlights will be Street Velodrome UK in the town centre.

It begins with an open session where members of the public can take part, then on Sunday there's an open competition to find Lowestoft's fastest racer.

Newmarket business owners are being urged to get involved in a scheme that could bring millions of pounds of investment to the town.

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is warning of the dangers of leaving plastic on our beaches after a recent litter pick in Southwold revealed it as the most common item found.

MCS beachwatch officer Charlotte Coombes says it can cause a lot of problems when animals mistake pieces of plastic for food.

"They can't digest that plastic so it fills them up or it can just cut their guts and cause lacerations," she said.

What a great day for a swim! As we mentioned earlier, Latitude Festival has allowed visitors to swim in the lake on the Henham Estate for the first time.

Scott Smith has been named as the person who died following a collision in Tom Crisp Way in Lowestoft yesterday, police say.

Mr Smith, 35, from Shadingfield Close in the town, was crossing the road about 17:00 when he was involved in a collision with an Audi A3. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One lane is closed and there's very slow traffic eastbound on the A14 Orwell Bridge at J56 (A137 Wherstead) because of a multi-vehicle accident. Congestion's being reported to J55 (Copdock Interchange) and on to the A12 to junction 32b (Belstead)

There are also queues on the A154 Candlet Road in Felixstowe at the Dock Spur Roundabout because of a traffic light failure.

A raft of measures to tackle dog fouling in west Suffolk, including launching a campaign and financial rewards for reporting offences, have been put forward by a local authority.

Waveney council say early reaction has been "positive, surprisingly very positive" to the announcement that residents will have to pay £42 in future to have their green garden waste bins collected.

Council spokesman Stephen Ardley said: "People who do produce a lot of garden waste have said it's a very cheap option to take rather than not have it at all."

It's being organised by the Lowestoft Lions, who are also holding a competition for families and businesses on Sunday for the most impressive masterpiece.

In the Waveney district, households will soon be charged £42 a year to have their green waste collected.

It's not the first time Sheeran has taken a celebrity guest to the pub. In December 2013, singer Taylor Swift joined him there.

A Kesgrave resident who's lived in the town for 12 years says the community shouldn't over-react to the recent issues that followed the arrival of travellers.

Richard Warkling's comments come as work's due to get under way putting barriers up in some areas of Grange Farm to prevent travellers returning to the area.

"This is the first instance in Kesgrave in 16 years," he said. "Although the residents reacted correctly to what was happening at the time, there's maybe an over-reaction to becoming a fortress to prevent something that may not happen again."

Melvin Benn, Latitude Festival director, said: "I couldn't believe how quickly people were in the lake - about a dozen people within 15 minutes of opening the gates."

A share of £90m could be coming to coastal areas in Suffolk as the government invites bids.

Someone who is hoping Lowestoft will receive some of the money is David Scott, the owner of Claremont Pier. He needs to raise £2m to restore it and said: "People say to me :'Well why should we give you money for your pier?' That's fair enough, I understand where they're coming from but obviously at the end of the day hopefully that pier will give something back to Lowestoft and the community."

To say the man is passionate about what he does would be a massive understatement, so how Anthony Ogogo has coped without boxing these last 12 months is beyond me.

Finally free of the pains of double Achilles surgery, Ogogo returns to the ring in Berlin tomorrow and faces a tough opponent in Ruslan Schelev of Ukraine, not that the Lowestoft man is daunted in any way, shape or form.

"I've got a huge smile on my face with the prospect of getting in that ring and doing what I love doing honing in. I can't wait and I'm going to do everyone proud," he said.

A councillor has said he understands residents' concerns over a traveller encampment at Kesgrave.

Earlier this week up to 13 caravans left having spent about a month on land next to The Farmhouse pub. About 70 people attended a meeting last night which talked about putting temporary barriers around open spaces.

Christopher Hudson, Conservative county councillor for Kesgrave, said: "I understand why because [residents] were faced with a lot of mess. We're still asking those questions - is it going to happen again and how do we stop it?"

There could be more money on the way to areas such as Greater Ipswich, Felixstowe, Lowestoft and the Deben peninsula, as the government invites bids from coastal teams for a share of £90m.

Coastal Communities Minister Mark Francois says: "It's local people who know their area best who'll help put that plan together because they'll bring their local knowledge and their experience of their community to bear."

The Press Association's Ben Kendall has taken the plunge as this year's Latitude Festival, where swimmers have been allowed to use a lake on the site for the first time.

"With summer well and truly here, it is difficult to think of a better way to relax after a hard day of listening to music, getting sunburnt and over-eating."

We left Needham Market at 13:40 - by 16:45 we were just north of Darsham and had long realised that we were not going to make it so turned back."

It's the 10th year I've been here but the first that I'm setting up camp in the family area, which has a very relaxed feel to it.

People were still arriving and setting up tents in the early hours of the morning, partly because of the gridlocked traffic coming from south of the site.

A draft document to deal with future traffic gridlock as Bury expands is currently being drawn up by county hall bosses.

A charge is going to be introduced in the Waveney area for the collection of green waste.

The decision by Waveney Council has been taken after the county council withdrew a funding subsidy.

Residents will become the third group in the county to have to pay for the service - Mid Suffolk and Babergh already charge for their brown bins.

Work will start this morning in Kesgrave near Ipswich to stop travellers returning to the area.

Barriers will be put in some areas of Grange Farm. It follows concern about a group of travellers who stayed for around a month.

The issue was discussed during a meeting last night.

A British man accused of hacking into US government computer networks has been re-arrested by police in the UK.

Lauri Love, 30, from Stradishall, faces charges in the US of hacking into agencies including the US Army, Nasa and the US Federal Reserve.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court and was bailed until his next hearing on 1 September.

A 35-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Lowestoft. The incident happened around 17:00 yesterday afternoon in Tom Crisp Way.

The car driver and a witness to the incident were taken to hospital to be treated for shock.
