Merseyrail has oldest trains in country

Merseyrail has the oldest trains of any operator in the UK, the Office of Rail and Road has found, with engines being on average 36-years-old.
A spokesman for the government department said the average age of trains across the country is 20 years.
Rail campaigners are calling for investment in trains that are fit for this century.
The Rail Delivery Group, which represents train operators and Network Rail, says thousands of new carriages will be introduced in the next few years.

Howard Kendall was 'idol for 50 years and friend for 30', Everton chaiman says
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has delivered the final tribute to former Toffees player and manager Howard Kendall, calling him "my idol for over 50 years and a friend for over 30".
He described the "overwhelming privilege of being an Evertonian" and how Howard Kendall was a manager who "truly believed", saying: "We loved Howard so very, very much - he understood Everton... that's what made him great."
"We loved him so very much," he said, adding: "More than anything, he was a Blue. Thank you 'H' for everything."

Many Evertonians are wearing blue shirts, blue scarves, blue jackets. There are blue flowers at the entrance to the cathedral - one woman told me that she "was part of Howard's army. He's on his way to Blue heaven".
Former Everton player Peter Reid sad "tactically, he was ahead of his time."
Many people are waiting outside the cathedral gates as there's no more room inside.

Merseyrail has oldest trains in country, 16 years older than average

Merseyrail has the oldest trains of any operator in the UK, the Office of Rail and Road has found, with engines being on average 36-years-old.
A spokesman for the government department said the average age of trains across the country is 20 years.
Rail campaigners are calling for investment in trains that are fit for this century.
The Rail Delivery Group, which represents train operators and Network Rail, says thousands of new carriages will be introduced in the next few years.

Officers were called to the property in Alstonfield Road, Dovecot at 00:50, Merseyside Police said.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and an investigation is continuing.
