  6. Junior doctors to stage A&E walkout

    Junior doctors in England are escalating strike action next month to include a walkout on emergency care.

    It will be the first time doctors have refused to provide cover in areas such as A&E and intensive care - the strikes so far have hit routine care.

  8. New knife guidelines 'will minimise risk'

    A commitment by retailers to display knives safely will help prevent some knife crime, according to the Abingdon MP who backed a campaign for the new rules.

  9. Cherwell council offices in Bicester to move

    Cherwell District Council’s Link Point office in Bicester is to move from 38 Market Square to the new Franklins House building in Pioneer Square next month.

    The doors in Market Square will close for the last time on Thursday at 17:15, and an appointment-only service will run at the town council's offices at The Garth from Tuesday to Friday next week.

  10. Travel update: A40 delays at Cassington

  11. Tougher knife guidelines 'really good news' says local MP

    New tougher restrictions on the sale of knives agreed by Britain's biggest retailers have been welcomed by Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood, who has supported a campaign by the widow of the man who was stabbed to death in the town's Poundland store in December.

    Justin Skrebowski, 61, was killed on 7 December and his widow Gulsen Alkan started a petition calling for knives to be sold in more secure packaging, which received 50,000 signatures.

  12. Woman killed in A34 crash

    Police are investigating a fatal crash on the A34 last night in which a 21-year-old woman died.

    A lorry and a Vauxhall Corsa collided on the southbound carriageway near Chieveley at about 21:30 and the driver of the car, from Wiltshire died.

    The lorry driver was checked in hospital.

  13. Wallingford's first "micropub" set to start rocking in town record shop

    Wallingford's first "micropub" will soon be opening after councillors granted it a licence, opening in the premises of a music shop during the evening.

  14. Donnington Playgroup set for £180,000 expansion

    Donnington Playgroup in Oxford has received a £180,420 capital grant from Oxfordshire County Council to expand its provision of early education places.

    The existing building will be expanded and eventually be large enough for 50 children, aged between two and five years old.

  17. Retailers agree stricter rules on knife sales

    Major retailers have agreed stricter rules on the display and sale and knives, after the widow of a man stabbed to death in Poundland in Abingdon organised a petition calling for the changes.

    Home Secretary Theresa May announced that Tesco, Lidl UK, Amazon UK, Wilko, Argos, Morrisons, Asda, Poundland, Sainsbury’s, John Lewis and Waitrose will ensure knives are packaged securely, staff are trained on approving knife sales and apply age verification procedures.

    The move comes after the petition started by Gulsen Alkan, the widow of Poundland victim Justin Skrebowski, attracted more than 50,000 signatures.

    An influential government committee has told HS2 its communication with residents in Oxfordshire has not been good enough.
