Historian: Dambuster pilot Les Munro an 'amazing man'

Historian James Holland has said the last remaining Dambuster's pilot who has died at the age of 96 was an "amazing man".

Squadron Leader Munro piloted one of the 19 Lancaster bombers who were tasked with dropping the now famous bouncing bombs on damns in Nazi Germany in May 1943. Out of a crew of 133, he was one of the 77 that returned.

Holland said described his wartime career as "extraordinary" saying, "he was involved in many incredible operations".

The legendary World War Two Dambusters operation flew from RAF Scampton, near Lincoln, in 1943 and successfully used "bouncing bombs" to attack German dams.
